The B1 sensor looks pretty tired...but maybe its just the pic......ha Honestly if you like the ypipe over the next week or so...spring for a couple new downstream sensors...and never have a headache again!

The sensors on the Y pipe are new, I didn't reuse any of them. The only one I didn't replace is the one on the bank 2 precat. And the exhaust manifold.

I'm waiting for it to come in from RockAuto.

The car sounds really sweet now, I think the next thing I'm gonna do is get an SAFC. I heard that works really well with supporting mods.

Don't mind how dirty the back of my car is, or the scratches.

That cutout was made for dual exhaust tips...the single tip looks weird. But that's jmo

Thought you bought the 5th gen SR*S catback? That's not it.

No I had changed my mind, and I went with the kit from EVO2. You don't like the single outlet? I don't think it looks that bad.

Its ok....although rocking the silencer inside is kinda ghey.

The SR-S is just a preferred system on this board due to its nice sound and stock tips orientation

Honestly, I kinda like the way it sounds with the silencer, I haven't heard how it sounds without it yet. It's probably wicked loud, because of the Y pipe. It's also 2.5" piping, I had to really pay attention, because a lot of those ebay kits were 2.25".

OK so I wasn't going crazy LOL

I prefer single tip with cutouts made for single tip, and likewise for dual. To me that just looks a bit off. But then again, I strive for a stock look with mine. To each their own. If you like it, great! That's your decision and your car... if you're happy with it then

Exhaust work is fun, when you have a lift.

I just bought the left downstream sensor, I'm gonna install it tomorrow morning when I can use my friend's lift, hopefully it will fix the P0430 code that I'm still getting. If the sensor alone doesn't fix the problem, than I'll have to replace the bank 2 precat, but hopefully I don't have to, because it looks like its gonna be a pain in the a$$ to do it.

I just wanted to keep everyone updated with my exhaust progress.

I just replaced the left downstream O2 sensor and cleared the P0430 code. Now if it comes back, I will then replace that bank 2 precat.

Also, I removed the part of the heat shield that's under the B pipe that was rattling. But I can still hear some part of my exhaust hitting something under the car, mostly when taking right hand turns. So I don't know what else could be rubbing.

Can anyone else who installed an aftermarket catback exhaust, who had rattling issues that could be heard from inside the car, offer some ideas of what else could be rubbing?

Thank you,

Charlie

SES light came back on today, ugh!!! Fu*king starting to hate this car. Looks like I'll be needing that back 2 precat too. But I haven't scanned it for codes yet, (will do after work) so I'm just assuming the P0430 code came back.

But who knows, because I slammed into the back of some guys Subaru on the ride home last night, so maybe I loosened something. Oddly, no damage was done to either vehicle, the guy stalled his car in front of me, and I didn't have time to brake.

I just scanned the ECU for codes, and sure enough, that P0430 code is back again. I'm gonna order that bank 2 precat that another member on here showed me a link to. If the new precat doesn't fix the problem, I'll probably end up trading in the Maxima towards a used G35.

I bought some antifoulers, I just haven't used them because I didn't think I needed them. I'm getting the P0430 code not the P0420 code.

I found this precat, New Catalytic Converter Front Powdercoated Silver Infiniti I30 2001 2000 | eBay

but there is no mention if it's for Cali emissions or Fed emissions. Can anyone tell by looking at it?

Thank you,

Charlie

For year 2000 fed spec doesn't use pre cats like that there made into the pipe so that would be cali spec pre cat since it says its for a 2000 also.

2000 fed spec pipe

My 2000 Maxima is a Cali spec. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't buying a bank 2 precat that was made for Fed emissions.

You can not buy precats separately for fed.

Also, would that precat that I posted a pic of work as good as an OEM one?

I didn't know this, thank you.

I just hope that replacing this precat will take care of the P0430 code, that my engine has been throwing. I have inspection coming up in July, and really don't want to fail for this.

I just bought that precat off of eBay, I'll post back once I receive it and install it.

I just got that eBay precat in today. Hopefully I'll find some time this weekend to install it, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need the lift again, it looks like its gonna be really tight getting into that space. Not looking forward to this job.

Once all the old ish is out and the crossmember is out of the way (takes 8-10 minutes to remove) it should be easy without a lift.

Ok, so removing the cross member should be 10 minutes. The PITA will be getting the old stuff out.

Okay, thank you for the input. I'll probably still end up using a lift, just so I don't feel claustrophobic.

Also, I didn't get new bolts with the pipe, and I don't really feel like reusing the rusted ones, any idea what size the five bolts that go to the header are? The other three bolts that go to the Y pipe are new, so I don't need to worry about those. Thank you.

Take one out and take it with you to the Auto parts store. That's what I did the last header job I did.

If you have access to a lift, hell yeah by all means, use it. I was just saying for us more unfortunate, it's not bad too do.

You mean not everyone has access to a lift? LOL.

I just installed the back two precat today. It took about an hour and a half. I cleared the P0430 code, and hopefully that's the last I see of it. I noticed I also have the P0440 code, so I might need a new gas cap, hopefully that's all it is.

read through the whole thread. 5aprilc looks like you went through hell & highwater just for tacking on a Y-Pipe! Lol I went through the same exact thing...

Yet, nothing is more satisfying than fixing it for good, and listening to it roar. Keep up the work man!

Thanks man! But yeah, its been quite a journey. I just hope that I never need to touch the exhaust again.

I'm gonna buy a new gas cap to see if that will clear the P0440 code, and I was thinking about just getting one from AutoZone. Has anyone used their gas caps and been ok, or should I just go to the dealership and buy theirs?

I'd rather not create a new thread, so I'll just ask this question in my existing thread. I need a driver's side CV Shaft, and I found one on eBay, I just need to know if I have a locking or open differential? The seller told me that it didn't matter if my transmission was manual or automatic.

Will it just say open or locking differential, or will there be some sort of code that I'll have to decipher?

CJ, it just says trans axle on the sticker in the engine bay. Nothing about open or locked differential. Unless there is another sticker that I'm supposed to be looking for?

Whats the code next to the transaxle? A or V? IIRC.

I'm not currently looking at it, sorry. I get out of work at 5:30, I can check than. If its an V what does that mean? Because I thunk I remember seeing a V next to it.

I have a manual transmission.

Also, while I have everyone's attention, I believe I need a new gas cap, I was wondering if I could get away with using one of those $6 ones at AutoZone, or if I had to buy the more expensive one at the dealership?

Thanks man! See I have the P0440 engine code, and I'm hoping that's all I need to shut the code off. But good news, I don't gage anymore exhaust codes, for the first time since I've owned the car.

I just replaced the gas cap and cleared the code. Hopefully that took care of the problem.

The SES light came back on after 30 miles. So it wasn't the gas cap. Any ideas what else could cause a P1440 engine code?

Where on this tag does it say if I have locking or open differential?

Anybody?

Bump.
