if you set the meter for auto range you're good.

^^ pay attention to post number 2. Found that thread with a 10 second google search with terms "maxima coil testing with multimeter"

I think he meant what setting as opposed to how to physically test them. YOu will use the Ohm setting which looks like an upside down horseshoe. Start out on the lowest setting and if you get a 1 then move to the next and so on until you get a valid reading. In reality, the best way to test coils is to simply remove the clips and see if the engine idle changes. Once removed if the engine starts to idle rough, then the coil is good. If nothing changes then obviously the coil is bad because it is not doing anything. GL on the rear coils lol

Set your meter to measure ohms. Depending on how your meter is made, use the megaohm scale or the autorange scale.

Unplug the wire from the coil pack and measure between the pins on the coilpack.

There are 3 connections:
Pin 1 different color on each coil pack
Pin 2 black wire on every coil pack
Pin 3 red wire on every coil pack

measuring between Pin 3 and Pin 2 connections:
positive lead on Pin 3 reads open (or infinity)
positive lead on Pin 2 reads 7.7 megaohms
.
measuring between the Pin 2 and Pin 1 connections:
reads 1.5 kilohms (polarity doesn't matter).
.
measuring between Pin 3 and Pin 1 connections:
positive lead on Pin 3 reads open (or infinity)
positive lead on Pin 1 reads 7.7 megaohms

In reality, NO because the removed coil does not always act up. The remove a coil and no change really only works for a coil that is bad all the time.

I had two bad coils when using the test method, but I didn't feel it all of the time.
