Aftermarket radiator hose fitment problem?

So I recently noticed I had a slight leak on the upper radiator hose.

Since the car has 208K, I bought a new one from advance auto parts and the screw to tighten type clamps.

What I am noticing is the joint on the thermostat housing pipe, there is a very slight leak.

Could it be the hose is not the right size? The OEM hose was a tad bit smaller in radius, and I mean a really small difference but getting the aftermarket hose on the pipe was very easy compared to the OEM.

Has anyone else had any issue like this?

First off, the upper radiator hose does not go the the thermostat, the thermostat is on the other side of the engine.

If the difference in hose size is truly "a really small difference", you should be able to tighten the clamp enough to prevent a leak.

Possibly the leak is a result of 2 things.

1- You did not clean the metal pipe off good enough. I like to use some fine grit sandpaper for this.

2- You did not get the clamp as tight as you think you did. If you bought a worm gear type clamp, you should be able to get it plenty tight.

The hose diameter to the thermostat is a bit smaller then the radiator IIRC. I have a new Koyo coming tonight and the thermostat is in my truck so I can check later. Also why does everybody hate the spring clamps. I have never had a problem with them and you can over tighten the screw type clamp and crack the radiator.

check the fitting on the engine for dirt or corrosion make sure the surface is nice clean so you will be able to have a good seal
