There have been problems with bad solder connections and problems with the ribbon cable connections in these radios. It could also be an electronic component dying. There's no guarantees before you disassemble the radio and start troubleshooting.

You can search for threads on this but beware - the insides of the radios changed from year to year. Make sure you are reading one for your year.

I have a 2000 that has the same problem. Sometimes the display will appear, sometimes not. Sometimes it will go out while driving, sometimes it will come on. Since I don't drive the car much anymore I've decided to live with it.
If it bothered me I'd buy a new headunit. The factory Bose unit sucks.

Sometimes I just tap the corner of the display and it comes back on.
It's been doing it for a couple years now so I doubt a component is failing.
More like a bad solder joint or loose connector.
