I just never liked Mercs. Don't know what it is, but the brand doesn't appeal to me as anything I want to own. There are models I can respect... you can say that about almost any brand, to be frank. But overall, Mercedes just doesn't speak to me.

Funny, but I get the same impression from the Top Gear crew. I'm on season 4 now, and I've got the distinct sense that they don't care for Mercedes either.

They sound and feel positively ferocious. Kind of raw, actually.

I agree about the hoodline. That bugs me, too.

But the 2009 GT was the 300hp 4.6L V8. That's child's play next to today's 5.0L GT. I've test driven both, before and after the 5.0, and believe me when I say they are worlds apart.

Not that I want one. It's still a tacky car, no matter how much HP they dump into it.

Already did. A pretty heavily modded one. Headers, full exhaust, GT500 throttlebody, LW driveshaft, gears, yada yada yada.... The all motor max was about a bumper ahead by about 140. Not impressed at all.

This was my argument when I drove the GT500. It was fun to drive, but the high-rise hood (true to old muscle car heritage) just felt awkward to me, especially after spending the last two years in a Maxima, where the hood is barely visible, and then a year in my G35, where the hood is the same way.

When I had my Trans Am, the front end was very much in the way. But not nearly as much as the front end of the newer Mustangs.

Well, I take that back. It wasn't bone stock. It was straight-piped from the exhaust manifolds back. But everything else was stock.

Squeaker and I have to fly in to Fort Smith arkansas from Seattle in a few months, and I'm looking at tickets. I'm thinking flying to DFW is best, but since I know loittle of the area, are there other MAJOR airports closer to fort smith arkansas besides dallas?

Kansas city or houston, perhaps? Will be flying in then renting a car.

Something about Mustangs...don't know what it is, but no matter what Ford does, they seem to be incapable of properly putting power to the ground.

They've had a history of being like that. Granted, 1000HP is 1000HP, but at the end of the day, that HP would perform better under the hood of a late-model GTO than it would a Mustang.

You know what car has the worst sightlines? The new Camaro. You can't see a damn thing out of that car. The windshield is slanted hard on an awkward angle and the back window is small and barely usable. The blind spots on each side are horrible too.

And that's aside from the fact that I felt like a sardine packed into there when I'm only 6 feet tall. I would never drive it.

I've driven the SS 6MT, and you're absolutely right... the visual ergonomics are a complete fail, IMO. You can't see down the hood, you can't see over the belt-line, you can't see out the little rear window because of the C-pillar.

It's an awful car.

I remember sitting in a 2010 Camaro and thinking, "Damn...this thing is cramped." It ranks right up there with the current-gen Mitsubishi Eclipse for worst blind spots ever. The problem is, knowing GM, it'll be another 7-8 years before they re-design the Camaro again, so we'll be stuck with those crappy portholes for the next decade or so.

FWIW, the CTS-V Coupe's rear window is even worse. GM failed miserably at designing that car. Had the brought the rear end down a little more, instead of giving it a CRX-esque look, it might've turned out decently.

So where's the money in this thread on who's going to get the best Auto-X times this weekend?

  • Tunermaxima3000 and his stock 2003 Infiniti G35S Sedan 6MT
  • Rochester and his stock 2011 Infiniti G37S Sedan 6MT
  • Merovi and his modified 2003 Maxima SE 6MT on coilovers
Merovi is very nicely modified, but it's a Maxima. Tuner is stock, but a very aggressive driver. And I'm stock with a very capable car, but likely less aggressive than both those guys.

I agree with the SS.. I thought my Z was bad for blind spots but that car gave blind spots a whole new meaning.. that was also the first car I've driven with paddle shifters.. wouldn't mind having those on a DD

He says that now that he has an HR.

Speaking of HR's...if my G's engine ever decides to bite the big one...I know exactly what's going in in its place.

You think the Z is bad about blind spots? I honestly thought it did pretty good for a car its size. I never had many issues. My G is actually a bit worse, the window in between the B and C pillars is a PITA to look out of.

There's a company that makes paddle shifters for automatic G's and Z's. They even work on the FX35. I thought about getting a set, but then I figured, why bother? I'm going to be doing a 6MT swap eventually, anyway.

It does vary some from person to person, but overall, it's shown that the firmer the mattress, the better, because with a proper pillow, it helps to better keep your spine and neck in line while sleeping on your side/back. Super-soft mattresses give you no support, and let your joints roam wherever they'd like when you sleep.

Think of this concept as a pair of shoes. You wear a pair of running shoes in a 5k marathon, and your feet will feel okay afterward, because you've got support. Wear a pair of Converse, and I bet you won't be able to walk for two days.

Not sure if I'd go through the hassle of installing paddle shifters for a car that didn't already come with it but it's a neat feature when you don't wanna do any work to shift.. I don't really have any problems in the Z for blind spots but it is a big difference when driving this car compared to the maxima or my dad's minivan lol
