5th gen Off Topic Thread (Official Ghustle thread v1)
So, here's what I have so far with the cost I paid to give people an idea of how much this might cost them to do.
Dash harness - $95
Engine harness - $90
ECU/cluster/pedal/key/ignition - $300
Flywheel/clutch - $230
Getting the flywheel machined - between $50-$100
So around $800 give or take a few dollars. I didn't even count the fact that I will probably have to replace the plugs in the motor, valve covers and gaskets, fluids, etc.
Now camparing that to if i were to do another hybrid swap, the only thing I would really need is...
cam adapters - $125
PFTB - $150-$200
after that, its all gaskets and miscelanious items.
So will the extra cost justify the supposed extra power? Probably not. But we'll see.

Can't have any one here realizing that I'm only a Ghustler by day and Mechanical Engineer by night and that I do have what appears to be a bit of comprehension of the English language

That'd be the end of my hustluh cred

Shiiiiiiiid
Full swap is on cuz.
This is the one answer to why do anything....

Same here, but everything isn't exorbitant, so I can piece it together week by week if need be, I'm more willing to full swap it just for the sake of changing motors will be easy as pie.
I have to get ahold of the local full swapper expert he'll walk me through on what i need.

I still think that out of all the swaps, Shift_max has done it in the most user friendly way. It's pretty much gauranteed to start up when you do it that way. But you also need more of a complete parts list to do it this way. It's not one of those things that can be "walked through" exactly. But here's a rough parts list;
Dash harness
engine control harness
engine room harness
gas pedal
cluster
ecu
key
ignition cylinder with NATS
Swapping it this way will be a direct swap as far as starting and running the motor is concerned. You're just going to have to worry about interior wiring which is easy in my book.

You can get by without the engine room harness though.

gas pedal
cluster
ecu
key
ignition cylinder with NATS

Ok, I'm thinking to get around the nats stuff is by using my old nats stuff... Dis possuhbul?
Bish plz
You can use your old nats equipment. But the problem is that the ECU has to be programmed to your key. Now if you have a consult, it wont be a problem. Then you have to worry about the cluster, then the OBD port, the e-gas, etc. After starting to strip the dash harness though... **** that. I'll swap the whole ish out.
Engine control harness is the one with that has the ECU plug on it too.

I have no problem with that, I have a dealer connec who hooks it up w/ da consult ish, if he's just programming keys, it's like $40 no big deal.

Yes, son, that is my career. Has been for about 25 years now. Just a custom business applications programmer, to put a mundane label on it.
cjandura, on the other hand... he seems more of a hacker. A scary, skilled hacker with access to outrageously expensive software and hardware.

I would go as far to assume (making an *** outta u and me) that the 5th gen is the same way also w/ the BCM functions.
I would fear that the ECU would throw a code for the body stuff not being there, but I do not see it hindering the functions of my Keyfob and what nots, but le red devil is registered in KS, don't give a fck about codes

Thought you owned a Junk yard?

The 4th gen is ecu independent.

To my knowledge the ECU just needs..... Power, Engine feedback, Speedo feedback and nats signal.
um Security system includes NATS with functions being monitored by the BCM on the 5.5 ie door switches, hood switch, courtesy light, fuel pump cut off so if alarm senses trigger from bcm as in door open when armed it then activates immobilize

Correct.
