I guess it depends where you go in the US as far as the 'normal' speed. I have only been to Montreal and Vancouver. I can't speak for the rest of Canada, but vehicles were not exactly moving at a fast pace. Painfully slow in some areas.
I was in Mississauga, Ontario, and traffic was moving along pretty good. I think the city speed limit there was 80 kmh
One thing I like better in Canada, is they have the street signs posted halfway down the block, so people don't have to slow down to check if it's the right street before turning down it. I wish they did that more around here

It probably depends more on the area. I know that, in my state there's places where if you're going 30mph on the highway it's making good time. In other areas some people will be running around 80-90. It's the strangest thing, but NE drivers aren't noted for good driving habits.
Rule of the thumb here is 5 mph and you're safe (cops won't give you a ticket), but people do 10-15 mph over the limit regularly. The ones doing the speed limit are either old people, on probation, or don't wanna get pulled over because they're drunk/have drugs in the car
I guess based on that, the actual speed travelled is pretty well the same, guess my trip was somewhat of an exception.
Though, most everyone who comes to Canada says we drive crazy fast on the highways.
City streets... no idea. I was surprised to find this out, actually, Always though it'd be quicker on highways in the states especially with the higher speed limit.
Guess it really does matter your location and where in canada you are talking about.
Hey CJ read what this OP said

That is inaccurate. I am a traffic signals electrician and by and large any "in town" road will not exceed 45 MPH (72km/h) and all school zones are 20 MPH (32 km/h). The only roads within a city limit that keep a 55 MPH speed are rural highways. In Canada most freeways jump to either 100 km/h or 110 km/h, so you can really cook down the road. Washington is like that on good stretches of I5 with a 70 zone, but the fastest in Oregon is 65.

they shun you away too didnt they?
That's what I mean, we are safe doing 20 km/h over as a rule of thumb (12.5 mph).
I guess based on that, the actual speed travelled is pretty well the same, guess my trip was somewhat of an exception.

Joking, i am still a (mostly) patriotic Canadian.
It is in the range, but at the very top end is what I was trying to point out. There is nothing around with an 89 km/h speed limit in town anywhere. That's 55 right there! Where can you legally drive around any city at 55mph that is not on a rural highway or freeway?
One can ask the same question of why do thousands of Americans go to Cuba to get treated for things they can't get here in the US?
what is this LITER you speak of it better be Milk!and if it is i WANT the secret on how you run your max on milk it must be a Canidian secret
And the taxes in Canada are not so ridiculous either. My best friend and his wife gross about 120K between them in Calgary and they bought a 400K house and live just fine. If their taxes were so outrageous they would not be able to afford what they have because they would be giving it all to Uncle Samada... lol!
same for gas here lol.. in DC its about high 4's already... they've been mid 4's since last year lol
