Had reconstruction about 15 years ago, and for a few short weeks the hearing was returning. It was... let's say, more than a little unnerving to suddenly hear stereo, and depth and direction. Quite a shock.

But it slowly went away. And now I'm deaf again. Maybe someday I'll try something again, like a cochlear implant. But really, it is what it is. It's part of who I am, so it's OK.

I'm about 30-40% in the left ear myself...tubes as a kid, ear infections, 2 surgeries (one when i was 8, the other at 17 or 18), still down.

I joke with my wife that I sit to her right because I don't want to hear her talk...she only thinks it's a joke.

Can't help you with that. But I can say I don't consider it a handicap. It just is what it is. So... the conversation can move on now.

Look! A car!

Did you know the Zonda's exhaust is made out of titanium?

So contrary to popular belief, it's not made out of sexy? ..or is that just further proof that it is, indeed, made of sexy?

Well... you could start now on a 3 year plan to purchase a car that comes already stock with far more power, handling and style than what you could mod out of your current ride.

That could work out rather well. Or so I hear.

Sometimes the conversation is swirling around him, and I "view post" to see what's what. But almost without fail, I immediately regret looking.

I really wish he was some troll having fun at people's expense, because I could almost respect that on some level. Sadly, that's not the case.

It's ALWAYS been dangerous to ride a bike. I used to ride but had TOO MANY close calls. If I wasn't a good rider I'd probably have gotten hurt or worse. Switched to dirt bikes & rode trials (big in NE) for fun.

Someone carjacked him in NYC, beat him up bad. He died in the hospital.
Haven't thought about that in a while. Still makes me sad.
That's really gruesome. The car reminds me of my old 81 Maxima that looked like this. I liked that car, RWD 'Z' chassis, light, nimble & so much fun to drive.

Sorry to hear that. When I was a kid I suffered from ear infections too, I can sympathize. They subsided when I had a tonsillectomy, which at that time was the only treatment (no tubes & etc back then). Thankfully I had no hearing loss.

It sucks when you have a procedure done which fails. I feel very fortunate the tonsillectomy (in spite of the painful recovery) preserved my hearing.

Well if you're actually going down that path, at least get the 5.0L R-Spec.

I'd consider the cochlear implant. When you get older, you'll start losing the hearing in your one good ear until you go completely deaf. At least with the implant, you'll go back to still having a good ear to hear with when that time comes.

Even worse when it succeeds for a little while before failing.

On a small scale, it was "Flowers for Algernon".
