Built on the same chassis. A GNX was a one year only option, in 87. It had many performance upgrades over the standard GN. They were made in small numbers and highly collectible, which means they're expensive. If you can find one neglected that can be restored for a good price, jump on it.

Are you serious about buying CJ's Grandfather's GN? I think that would be awesome.

I've always liked those cars. It was one of my favorites when I was a kid and still is to this day.
OMG, those interiors truly are hideous. Blech.
The problem with buying a car that has been stored for that long is the mechanical work that will be needed to get it on the road. Fuel system flush and complete fluid flush, all new rubber (tires, belts, hoses, etc), brake system overhaul, and the transmission. Automatic transmissions don't like to sit. All the internals and seals will be dry, and as soon as you put the power to it and get it through the gears, bad things will happen. The trans will have to come out and be taken apart and overhauled. That's probably 5 grand right there just doing all of that including the transmission overhaul.
