help needed - Need a new engine (valve tapping sound)

So I went to start up my 03 max today and a loud tapping type of sound was coming from the upper part of the motor - more like a loud valve tap or something. After adding about 1.5 qt of oil and the tapping noise died down slightly but its still there. The motor does burn about 2 qts of oil every 3200 miles or so. These issues got me thinking of getting another motor but not sure if its worth it for a car that is almost 10 yrs old. If I do decide to replace it what engine should I get and from where? I was told by a fellow member to get an 07 Altima 3.5.

Anyone willing to help me out Im located in Southern NJ/Philly area?

Help is much appreciated.

Thanks

You can use most any transverse mounted 3.5 from a ('02-'08)maxima, altima, quest, or murano. Swap over the intake manifold, oil pan, and maybe the fuel rails. Let us know what you decide to use.

Anyone recommends a reputable tech/member to have the motor installed? Contacted couple members but did not hear back from them. I am located in southern NJ/Philly area.

Thanks

Does it matter if the engine was from a manual or automatic? On car-part.com when searching for engines you have to specify a transmission type.

If memory serves, it is possible to use either (I don't remember the specifics of what needs to be swapped), but you really want to stay with the same type of engine (auto or manual) as your car is. All I can really remember about that part was that it increased the labor needed (and thus $$$) if you try to use a AT on a MT car or vice versa. Sorry for not being much help in that area.

update : ended up having an 07 maxima motor swapped over. Runs and drives like new. Only thing I have noticed is the exhaust is a little bit nosier but I can live with it. Was told the cams maybe a little a different than from an 03 motor which can be the cause of the noise.

Big Thanks to a fellow member "Unklejoe" for the help.

Cams are the same, valve springs are slightly softer.

Cool getting it to work.

Mind snapping pics of the intake manifold, most namely where the VIAS valve resides?

Congratulations! Feels nice having that power back doesn't it? Did you do the timing chains as well?
