P1217 but no overheating issue? Plus possible MAF issue
Hi All,
So suddenly in traffic yesterday I lost the ability to rev past 2000 (This is a 2k2 car). Thought that great, there goes the MAF but no biggie, car is manual so still drivable. However I also noticed that the coolant temp was maxed out. coolant didn't seem overheating and everything seemed good.
Left the car to cool overnight and checked the level of coolant on both radiator and overflow and everything looks good. Both rad fans are also running fine.
I read the engine codes and the only code that is not going away is P1217 (overheating)
Other codes for the curious:
P0139
P1147
P1456
P0442
Ideas? Can the MAF do that to the coolant temp sensor? Still have a 250 KM drive to do today so would appreciate the advice.
P.s: Car struggled to start up today cold for the first time if that helps. When I kept starting it during yesterdays drives it seemed okay

With the engine cold, is the temp gauge all the way at High ? If yes then most likely your coolant temp sensor is dead. You can unplug it and the needle on the gauge should drop to Low.
Another possibility is your maf sensor and the IAT sensor on it is dead.

Yup, cold car and maxed out temp
Will unplug it and see if the Maf like symptoms disappear. Didn't get a code for the IAT but it's possible. Just got to double check in the FSM where the location of that sensor is

Yes indeed, you called it.
I guess MAF is ok, the car just thought it was overheating and didn't want to give me anything above 2000 rpm for safety to the vehicle. It's working ok now but a little jerky. Don't know if that sensor is one of the inputs moving the car out of open loop which might have something to do with it.
Now I will try to find how to test the sensor and harness to see where the issue is and replace that part.
Thanks for the support

Brand new sensor is $25 from the dealer. Very cheap, and I've personally had those temp sensors go out on several cars of mine. It's highly unlikely to be the harness given your circumstances, but here's how to test it anyways:
