Driver or Passanger Side wheel bearing?
Hey everyone... I know this might sound stupid but lately I have been getting a lot of "whooooooming" noise coming from the front wheels during cornering to the right... driving in a straight line and cornering to the left the car is quiet... I have already checked everything on the front suspension... the tires are not cupped so I am thinking that one of the bearings is shot... I just can't remember if the noise is coming during right cornering was it the driver side bearing or the passenger side?

Opposite
If you hear wheel bearing noise when you turn it's typically the wheel opposite to the turning direction, ie noise when turning right, it's likely the left wheel because that's the one you're loading.

Jack up the car, grab the tire on the very top (12oclock) and at the very bottom (6oclock) at the same time and try to shake/move it in and out. If it moves then that's the side that has the bad bearing.

This was my wheel bearing issue on my 4th gen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN6IFnccEj8
If it sounds like that it's most likely your wheel bearing.

interesting yesterday I jacked up the car in the air or jack stands and checked both tires 12 and 6 o'clock and 9 and 3 o'clock no movement what so ever... as I spun the tires the driver side wheel made no noise the passenger side made a slightly louder noise, most likely I will replace both bearing due to the their age... 190K I have the full service history of the car and no one has ever replaced them before... any ideas on good after market bearings? I love the car but I don't love the dealer price on those parts...

Why would you only replace one wheel bearing? If one side is making noise then you can bet that the other side will soon make noise or is in similar condition considering they obviously have the same mileage. So while your mechanic is in there do the job right the first time and replace both bearings.

My next step will be to find good bearings... No way I will spend over $80 for oems...
ANyone have a good idea/experience with some after market bearings?

Bearings can go out at different times. Yes, it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace both due to mileage, but not totally necessary.
It's not a "job" unless something is broken.
