Replacing OEM speakers. Recommended brands?

So I'm probably going to replace the OEM speakers and tweeters on my 2000 GLE. Any advice as to which brand I should use? Are there any kits out there that would have four 6.5" speakers and the 1" tweeters?

Sounds like you want component speakers? I have always been partial to Infinity but Polk audio makes very nice speakers as well and the prices are not outrageous either. As far as prices go, just contact a website like sonicelectronixs.com and they might give you a discount on 4. Do you still have the stock HU? If you do I would think about getting another or go with coaxial speakers. Just dont cheap out on whatever it is you get because you WILL regret it. Huge differences in quality vs. cheap speakers

Long as you don't have the stock HU you'll be fine. Go on sonicelectronix and look for some 6.5 component speakers and pick up a used or new amp for them because they won't nearly sound to their potential by using HU power.

OP everybody is gonna give you a different brand/set of component speakers that they prefer, personally i picked up a pair of ALPINE TYPE X PRO components and the things are so loud and crispy clear that people think i've put thousands of dollars into my system. My point is that you have to do the research yourself and see what you like because everybody has a different ear when it comes to sound.

Hertz makes one of the best speakers in the world. if you can find a local dealer get those. They are not sold online. You can try: http://www.woofersetc.com/c-40-65.as...facturerid=138

but I am not sure of the legibility of that site.

As mentioned previously, there are waaay to many options available. Probably the best thing to do is give us an amount you're willing and able to spend, and maybe we can help you score a good deal within your budget.

Well I'm just looking for a good quality set, and I generally like to listen to rock and metal. I was hopeing somewhere in the $100-300 range, but if only really s#&%^y ones exist in that range, I'll go higher

The most common set of component speakers are in the $100 range for 2 and then they skyrocket. So for about $300, maybe a little more, you can get a fairly good set of speakers

As mentioned previously, Polk Audios are an excelent speaker on a budget. For $300 - if you don't know anything specific you are looking for, Infiniti or Rockford Fosgates should make you happy. But at that range the vast majority are good quality, and the differences are a preference to a well-tuned ear.

For example, I replaced a set of Polk Audios for a set of Fosgate T1's (much higher price point), and in the end, I liked the way my Polks sounded over the Fosgates.

Your best bet is to go to a local stereo shop, and listen to a few different brands in the same price category. Listen to them off the same head unit, prefereably someting as similar as possible to the one you have.

Yup those are the ones, and nobody said quality/great sounding speakers were cheap. I will put these up against any POLK/MB QUART/INFINITY'S in the same price range and you'll hear the difference.

On that budget the Hertz will be best imo. Type-R is good also. Infinity and Polk also offer great products. The cheapest best option would be Polk. The Type-R's and Infinity Kappa would be the most expensive. For all 4 (6 if doing tweeters of components) you can probably make it with $300 budget. If you do get components for the front you have to make sure the tweeter will fit the factory location. Also, as mentioned by someone else, you will want an amp to power the components.
