Clogged Pre Cat= hard starting?

Have P0430
New starter and crank position sensor (by oil filter) made starting better - for a week. Now every 8th start, it sounds like it is struggling to turn the motor over or grinding. Usually though it starts fine. Belts aren't too tight. Nissan mechanic thought missing flywheel teeth or........

A clogged pre-cat that is causing back pressure making the motor hard to turn over due to back pressure??? Seems a bit crazy as it only happens only every 8th time.

Car runs, accelerates and idles perfectly.... 320Km...

Is this possible really, considering it is intermittent? Anyone ever heard of this?

What I will do now is take off starter and painstakingly turn over the engine with a wrench to see if I can see any missing teeth. I have been taking off the oil cap to release the possible backpressure if the precat is clogged.

Surprisingly it hasnt grinded once when I had the oil cap off.

Bad Starter

Just a followup,,,
It was a bad starter. Replaced it myself. It was a pain but doable.
