Failed CA Smog - ECS Air Injection
I am trying to get my 20th Anniversary CA registered and just took it to the smog station.
I passed Visual and Emissions but failed the Functional due to a ECS - air injection?
I dont have any codes coming out?
Anyone have any idea or help?
- Jeff

I wish I knew.
The guy said that I failed since I didn't drive more than 30 miles before coming to get a test.
I mean first of all I live in LA. Doesn't he realize it takes 5 hours to drive 3 miles yet alone 30! - kidding

Ah nice!
Ya the place I went to was on Lincoln just north of Ocean called, Just Smogs.
I guess Ill go for a long drive this week and then head back over for a pre-test to see if that is the issue.

Most cars have to drive for 30 minutes or so to warm up the catalytic converter. Some OBD2 scanners can show emission system readiness. Means if you clear ECU trouble codes, it resets the emission system. You have to drive until the monitors are ready. Then you can get the smog check.

Thanks guys for your help. I ended up driving around for about 1.5 hours this AM. Took it over to the same place and it passed, although it had an inclusion (?) on the cat in the ECU which i guess can make you fail from what the tech told me even though its not technically an error.
Side note- he looked at the sheet from the other employee and saw what I failed for. 2001 Maxima's dont have air injection - I should have passed.
Just goes to show, maybe a little gov't regulation on some things isn't that bad especially when it comes to DMV Bull****.
Thanks again
