I have a 2000 maxima SE. It has that chipped key and I want to get a new one. I went to the dealer and they want over a $100 for one key and $55 to program it. Anyone know of any better options? I've seen keys on Ebay, but I still have the programming issue.

nope. unless you zip tie your old key to your steering column under the plastic cover close to the ign barrel so a chip key is read when a plain non chip key is put in the ignition. you can search on here to find more info on it... but why would you ever do that.... i just finished paying 600 bucks for a tow, a NATS antenna (nissan anti theft system) a new key plus old one reprogrammed, i was hoping for a way around it but unfortunatley there is none.

I bought an Ebay one for like 7 or 8 bucks that had a chip in it and says Nissan on it in a chrome emblem. You can feel the cheap in it, but I took it to my local locksmith and they cut it and programmed it for 60 bucks I think. Now I have 2 keys and I am happy. Any locksmith place will have the heavier, higher quality ILCO keys though. They don't say Nissan, but they are definitely heftier.

I got mine on ebay for about $7. Programmed for $50 at nissan dealer. The ebay key does not say nissan. But it has the logo. It works 100% but is "rougher" in and out of the ignition. You can feel the cheapness was a good line. Worth the $7 to me.

Thanks for the info. I was gonna buy one on Ebay for about 15 bucks, just like the one described. Guess I'll buy a heftier one and kick the 55 for programing!

I just had this happen as well - bought two keys from EBay for $15 shipped and had all 3 (original as well) reprogrammed at the same time; cost $40 from local locksmith.

$55 total for 3 new keys.
