2001 "Wierd/Different" Tranny Problems
Well I have had the car for 6months now and I seem to notice for the past 4months, when the car is cold, I get "ticking" noises coming from the tranny when the car is in gear (either R or D) but not in neutral. I mean that is why I know it is a tranny problem.
But then when the car is warmed up after say a 10min drive and then if I come to a stop and keep it in gear, that ticking noise is no longer there.
Is anyone else having this problem? I think I am going to check my tranny fluid level and make sure that is not low. Actually UMD_MaxSE, I remember you checked it back when we installed the UDP and it was fine.
Maybe it is a different type of tranny problem, no lag shifting issues though.

Are you sure it's coming from the tranny? Also, does it only happen when you are moving and the car is cold? It could be something else.... When you come to a stop and the car is in gear and cold, does it still tick?
Couldn't it be an exhaust pipe resonating against the tranny? This used to happen to my old Corolla. When put in R or P, it would make this funny noise, as if bass was emitting from the car. It was just the pipe touching the tranny.
first off...
check the level of your fluid. and also make sure it doesnt smell bitter or burnt. shine a flash light on it to see if you spot any metallic particles. those are quick/easy things to check.
Here is how it actually makes the sound.
When I get in the car in the morning, basically a cold start, the car is fine. As soon as I put it in Either R or D, and have my foot STILL on the brake, I can hear a "grinding/ticking" noise. Once I let go of the brake it is gone.
If I then drive it maybe a 1/4 mile and come to a light, and again keep the foot on the brake while the car is on D, it will still make the sound.
Once the car is warmed up, it is Completely gone. I checked the fluid level, that is fine, fluid seems normal in color and does not smell burnt or anything.
This is why it is baffling to me.
