Tranny Swap Anniversary Ed.
Hey guys happy independence day! ****in English.. X)
This forum is awesome and i plan on posting more. Thankfully my parents bought a 20th AE 5-speed w/lsd from the factory new back in 01. I learned how to drive in the car, got my license from the dmv in the car, and it has been a blast driving it for the last 8 yrs. I am lucky enough to have gotten the car as a graduation present from college and I have been dumping money into it ever since Lol.
I have a question that I know I've read on here someplace but now I am not sure and can't find the posts.
Will a 2002 or 2003 trans fit in my 2001 AE edition?
The 2nd gear synchro has been out since my dad ripped it up bak before I was the primary driver of the car (at about 55k I think it went). It has always bugged the hell out of me and robs performance out of the straight line speed because I have to shift slowly into second and can't do it anywhere close to redline because it will always grind - a terrible sound and feeling
Just want to say thanks to everyone here, this is a great community- I have learned a ton and like that so many people are passionate about their max!
I am happy to say my maxima and it's VQ have had no major issues (except synchro) and continue to run strong at 130k.
Ps I was really debating trading her in for a corrado vw but thankfully came to my senses. I will own this car until it falls apart

It CAN be done, but the work involved is more than I think you want to bother with. It's not a simply swap.
It would be much cheaper to have the 5 speed rebuilt. Contact DaveB on this site, if you can swing shipping it to him or if he has a suggestion on who to take it to, that's your best bet.

This is the Tranmission Guru that resides mainly in the 4th gen section (or at least used to).
Now that I'm saying it I'm pretty sure his SN is Dgeesman or somethinglike that. His name is Dave
Guy knows those transmissions backwards and forwards.

ive done the 6speed swap and it was easy but only because i threw a 3.5 in there at the same time.
you are better off doing a rebuild or finding a used tranny

haha what a joke
the cables are so much stiffer feeling when you shift, no sloppiness like the 5 speed. anyway, rebuild or buy a new car.
