Rear View Mirror Swap

I have an '03 with auto dimming rear view mirror and was looking to swap it out with one that has the compass in it also. Is that just a direct swap or is there any wiring altering I need to do? I did a search and came up empty.

It should be plug and play. The wiring harness for the mirror has all the wires needed.

Mine was a direct swap, but I think you might need a security Torx bit for something. IIRC, that is, it was a long time ago.

It was a subtle change that was one of those things not many people notice at first, but then it's so handy to have. As soon as I found out the 2003s had it, I went out and swapped mine.

Would a mirror from a 2004 max with temp and compass work in the 03 max? or the one with home link, temp & compass from the 04's?

I just did this today. I pulled one off a wrecked I30 at the junkyard for $15. It truly is plug and play like others have said. Both cars had regular torx bits though, not security torx.

@The Duke of NY: The wiring harness is a 6 pin connector if that helps at all.

Thanks a lot for this thread. I even ignored the existence of this mirror with compass.

I bought it, installed, calibrated and I'm happy.

Do you know where I could find this tool? the torx bit and what size? I don't want to buy a whole tool set for just one-time use. Thanks in advance!

At your local hardware store. T-15 torx screwdriver for around $5.

For not much more, Harbor Freight has a bunch of security bits. Damn now it's even cheaper! http://www.harborfreight.com/100-pie...set-91310.html
