Headlight went out, don't know where to start checking..

I know the car uses hid bulb and I can imagine it's quite expensive... I went to autozone and they don't sell them so where can I buy it from?

Before that... what other issue may it be, the autozone rep said the bulb doesn't look blown.

Also, my ac is kinda making my console vibrate.. don't know if the compressor is on the way out or what but it looks to be a expensive fall for my trusty max..

189k on the clock lol

Anyways, I'll be here to find some guides or something to see about doing so stuff myself.

What kind of bulb do you have? The hid lamp that the 2002 and 2003 put in at the factory is type D2R (HID-D2R). The autozone by me has them for $99 but I googled for HID-D2R and e-bay has them for $39. Also, if you have a Canadian car, the problem could be the DRL module (daytime running lights).

The console vibrating probably isn't the a/c compressor. The blower motor for the fan is more likely. Set the controls for heat and see if you have the vibration.

189k on the clock - is that all? It's still a youngster.

I ordered from the group deal. After coupon code it was $30 a bulb plus shipping. I jusg installed them 2 days ago. I got 5000k. Looks great and install went smooth once I figured it out. Probably a 10 minute job.

02-03 Maxima comes with D2R. D2S is very similar to D2R but they are not interchangable. I have good used OEM Phillips D2R if you are interested. $25 shipped.

TRS also has Morimoto 3Five in D2R now, it's new http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...ducts_id=19006

Their products are great. They aren't a Phillips or OSRAM bulb, but it's better than anything on eBay/DDM/any of those cheap HID companies.

Btw, not trying to kill your sale MSU, just tossing the OP all of his options

Kevin, It's all good

Yes TRS is the place. I go there all the time for their Morimoto product. Or go to HID Planet for sale section, sometimes you can find good deals there too.

I have a 2003 Maxima and one of my headlight bulbs went out also, Thanks for the links above, I just placed an order for replacement D2R bulbs, I ordered the 5000K bulbs instead of the 4300K bulbs.. Is that an issue?

I don't think I saw any troubleshooting steps in here. I would double check to make sure you don't have ballast/ignitor that's gone bad. I would swap bulbs between the driver and passenger side. If the bulb that went out doesn't light up on the other side of the car, it's the bulb. If it does light up on the otherside, the ballast or ignitor might be bad. Also you won't always be able to tell if the bulb is bad by looking at it.

oh crap... lol... I'm in the process of taking the right side bulb off and looking at it.

Probably gonna need more time to take both off and it's night time here soon.

Might have to do this in the morning.

how does the ballast or ignitor look?

smart!

swap the bulbs to make sure it is infact a blown bulb and not a relay! i had an issue with my stock left headlight and it turned out to be a relay. i fugured this out after buying a bulb lol.

The ballast is bolted to the bottom of each headlight. The only way to get to it is to remove the headlight from the car.

The ignitor is inside the headlight. It sits inline on the harness between the ballast and the bulb. If you do figure out that the issue is not the bulb, the first thing is to try replacing the ballast first. If that doesn't work, then the ignitor would be next, but that will require quite a bit of work that might involve opening the headlights up (not entirely sure if this is required as everytime I had an issue it was a bulb or ballast).
