should a new clutch have shake

Hello this is my first post.

I have a 03 maxima 6 speed and i just had the clutch preasure plate bearing and flywheel resurfaced. So when i dove car away from shop i noticed when ii release pedal it feels like its skipping and motor shakes mostly in 1st and reverse.. drove back to shop and mechanic said it was because its new and needs to break in oh plus it smells a lil.. is this true does it need to break in? its an oem clutch.
Thanks!!

No. Break in period? Yes, but not for the problems you're having. Your mechanic did something wrong and is trying to hide it or is just ignorant.

Specifically, how did they resurface the flywheel, and was it first inspected for deflection and rotational movement according to the FSM to see if it was still within operable specs?

Hotspots on a flywheel can cause that. It looks like burn marks on the metal. Even resurfacing won't get rid of them. Those hot spots actually change the structural integrity of the metal on a molecular level, and don't "bite" the clutch as they should, which can cause the clutch to chatter upon engagement in 1st and reverse.

BAD PREASSURE PLATE

Turns out that the Preassure plate was bad and they had to replace it. MAN IT JUST PISSES ME OFF THAT WHEN I ASKED THE MECHANIC WHY IT WAS SHAKING,, HE SAID OH ITS JUST BECAUSE ITS NEW! I know thew were just hoping I was just going to say OK and drive off! I will never go to that shop again! And if anybody lives in the San Francisco Bay Area stay away from a shop called NIPPON AUTO SERVICE..
I just wanted to thank you guys again for your knowledge..

welcome to the faggotry of the automotive repair world... i would say 75% of mechanics out there aren't passionate enough about cars to get some things.

What scares me is that they told you they "resurfaced" the flywheel.

You're technically not supposed to resurface a dual mass flywheel unless you have the right equipment (which that shop probably does not).

I just scuffed mine up with a little air powered grinder with a scotch-brite pad.
