atf overfill

hello, i just changed my atf and in my haynes book it said ti fill up as much as is drained. i drained almost 6 qts. and filled up with same. this seems like alot. anyway, my car seems to be acting strange while shifting. could it be over filled?

yeah i am aware of the dip stick but i cannot get an accurate reading. ran the car for a good 30 minutes, checked it while it was running but the stick is saturated. i guess i really want to know is will an overfill cause my shifting to be abnormal?

overfill is just as bad as underfill, yes.

But if you had no shifting issues before, and put the same amount in, the level is not relevant.

What type fluid SPECIFICALLY did you put in? And how did you do it?

Hmm...Don't know what to tell you.

Try going through all teh gears when you're at idle, several times. I've read a few posts that say this could help...

4 speed auto, yes? Did the 5th gen offer a 5 spd auto or was that with the 6th only?

It could be possible that you flushed some damaged parts from the tranny when you drained out the old fluid. If you have the owners manual it gives you a step by step on how to get an accurate reading. I switched mine to manaul YEARS ago so i cant remember off top

not sure if it will apply. but, i suggest lucas slip stop. it puts some friction material back into the fluid so your trans will work a little better.

i just researched how much is supposed to be in it. 4 to 5 qrts. since i know how much i put in, i emptied what i needed to. everything is good now. well, till my max totally died. onto the trouble shooting again. not tranny related. could be fuel pump, not positive yet.
