6x9's in a 02 Maxima

Has any one tried installing 6x9 speakers in the 02 Maxima? if so did you have to do any Mods to the car to install them or did they fit right in?

Why?

The 02 Maxima uses 6.5" speakers. That's what should be installed.

not to mention that 6.5s are acoustically superior. 6x9s just have more bass

Where would these 6x9's be placed? In the rear deck?

You can fit them in the doors with some cutting. Not worth it IMO. Some 8" midrange woofers though...that'd be worth it

What you should do is get a speaker box for the 6x9's and just plop it on the rear deck with some visible wiring to show everyone what kind of wiring you used. Lastly, it goes unsaid from now on you have to ride around with all your windows down so everyone can hear the music you are listening to.

Exactly, the work to install 6x9s are no where near justifiable to do it. If you want more output, just get a more powerful speaker. Or if you want to be a boss, run 6.5s in your doors and get kick panels and put 6.5s in there too!

I'd go with Hybrid Audio 6.5's. They have taken the car audio scene by storm over the last few years winning numerous awards.

Technically you could make it happen but the soundstaging would be trashed. only thing worth while on the rear deck is a free air sub and thats only if trunk space is a concern.

If you have component speakers in your doors front and rear then 6x9's in the rear deck aren't necessary. Just make sure they're amped properly so they are getting the power they need.

Agree on the first point, but not on the second. If you want more bass, get subs.

Don't do it. Get proper subwoofers.

Why do you want to have 8 speakers? How did you arrive at that number? What logic did you use? Tweeters in your trunk?!?!?!

Ok, please read this in its entirety and heed the advice given.

I know to you I may just be some other guy that 'claims' they know what they're talking about on some online forum. But seriously, I do. Ask anyone on here.

I had a total of 6 speakers in my Maxima. A component set in my front doors, and 2 10" subwoofers in the trunk. That's it. And I GUARANTEE you it was louder and cleaner than 95% of the people on this forum. Quantity does NOT trump quality.

I praise you for asking questions, but seriously - drop the idea of 6x9's. They're a customized bandaid solution for idiot OEM's. Listen to the advice that's being given. And don't even think another second about wasting time effort or money on putting TWEETERS in your TRUNK!

Not to get more bass. The only way to get some nice bass is through a decent subwoofer, no need for those B.S. 2 12s in a POS box that Pep Boys sell. To get a little bass going a nice solid 10 will be more than enough for our cars. But kick panels if he just wanted more speakers. It will look the best and give a great performance too.

Fair enough.

But I'm personally against the 'more speakers for more output' route. I'd recommend getting BETTER speakers. Either way you're going to need a more capable amp, so why introduce the complication of having to locate extra speakers?
