Another Winter Tire/Rim Recommendation Request

Would like to put winter tires on existing stock 17x7 SE rims and also get wider 17" rims (17x7.5 or 17x8)for summer tires. Will eventually replace existing 225/50-17 RE92's with 245/45-17's (which is why looking for wider 17" rims).

So.....

What winter tires do you recommend?

What rims do you recommend?

Thanks!

Snow tires

I picked up a set of 16" Nissan wheels on e-bay, which gave me a lot more options for snow tires - at a better price too. I mounted a set of Dunlop Winter Sport M2's from Tire Rack. So far I have not been dissapointed. The Dunlops are quiet, handle great for snows, and are unreal in snow/slush.

I agree with the post above. Go to a 16 for your winter treads. Check Tirerack (I got 16's with Blizzak MZ-01s for about $900 shipped) or look for a set of factory 16s (ebay or here http://www.aaarims.com/specials.shtml#nissan ). The price difference from the 16's to 17's tires will cover about half the cost of the rims plus give you better snow performance (due to narrower/taller tire). I have pics if you want to see my setup.

I just bought a set of 215/55HR-16 Toyo Observe Garits with steel wheels at Les Schwab for $750 installed. There's no snow anywhere today (figures) but they are phenomenal on dry pavement. I briefly got it up to 100 and they felt very stable. They were really quiet, too. A little bumpy around town but not too bad. I can't wait to go skiing Wednesday and try them out!!

I agree with everyone else. Try the 16" wheels, it gives you way more options. Also, the thinner tires are better.

Tony
