2001 GLE completely dead

Hey guys looking at buying a 01 GLE 20th Anniversary Edition for $1100. The car had hesitation and idle issues and therefor was parked. The battery was dead so he tried boosting it this morning before I got there. I am guessing he fried something as the car is completely dead right now and would not start. We tried boosting it from his truck and same thing, no power at all. When turning the key in the ignition the dash doesn't even light up, interior lights don't work, nothing.

Went through the fuses, one fuse marked Audio was blown and we replaced it with another one. There is that fusible link that is right off looks like it's still ok. What else can we look at? Did a search and one guy looks like he had a similar problem after hooking up the battery up the wrong way and blew that fusible link.

Sounds like you gusy blew the battery fuse. Its on the battery positive terminal, check that. Its 120amp and I've only seem them available at the dealer for about 20 bucks. If you can get to a junkyard you should be able to find one there.

Yep i'd check that first. Since the OP says that the car had idle issues, i'd check the IACV and see if it went bad. When they go bad, they tend to take out the ECU with it, too.

check that stuff first. idle issues could be MAF related as well. I had idle issues(no cel) and that's what it was.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am not to worried bout the idle problems right now it does sound like the iacv valve but just wanted to get it started to verify that it runs before buying. I did check the fuse on the postive terminal visually but it didnt look like t was broken etc.

from what I know, all AE's are SE model... you should check that as well...
if it's acting up on idle - pull out the ECU, as it might be fried as well (will have a burnt chip inside)

Does anybody know how to remove the fuse? Seems like its screwed/bolted in from the bottom. Pull off the battery terminal clamp and unscrew the fuse? What type is the screw? Sorry the car is across town and the seller doesn't have much in terms of tools so I wanted to know which tools I would need so I can throw them in my car and head over.

It uses a 10mm or 12mm socket, it has 2 of them on the side close to the bottom of the fuse IIRC, and it will come right out. If you use a screwdriver you will probably strip the screws because they are really soft.

Thanks for the replies guys! Put a new fuse in there and she fired right but up but idled rough. Took out the ECM and it was fried as well . Will have to send it out to get rebuilt. Question about the IACV, do you guys prefer those dealer only parts or would aftermarket work?

Amazon Amazon

Of course it's going to idle rough. It hasn't been run in 3 years and it's trying to burn 3 year old gas that's turning itself into varnish. Drain the tank and put fresh gas in there.

Pics of the ECU? How can you tell it's fried?

P0505 code as well a burnt chil onthe ECU which is very common once the IACV ****s the bed. The idle did smoothen out a bit after warming up. Now he question is whether to get a OEM or aftermarket IACV
