misfiring help
Ive been searching for two and a half weeks now with no real luck so I figured it was time to make a thread about it.
I picked up a used 2k max with 110k miles on it recently and I have been having issues with it misfiring at idle. It doesn't happen all the time but coming to a stop it hesitates lightly drops to 500 then goes back up to 750 and never shuts off. There is also a slight misfire in reverse as the idle drops to 500 that rarely happens but it does.
Last week I finally got a SES light showing a cylinder 2 misfire and I took it to my local shop and the guy said it was it was the ECM and needed to be changed. The light was reset and I drove 130 miles with no SES light and an occasional bog id say one out of 3 times driving the car.
Today the SES came back on again showing the same cylinder two misfire. Before blowing money on an ECM do you guys think it would be good to just change the coil pack first even though the shop said it checked out? Can a coil pack have a kink in it causing it to not misfire all the time? my instinct is telling me if i had a bad ECM it wouldn't drive fine with the occasional problem. Also would an Idle relearn possibly help? Thank you advance for the help!

It is likely just the one coil pack causing the issue and since you have the specific cylinder it should be an easy fix. Only take you about 10 minutes to change it out.
Just an FYI...there are two versions of the ignition coils. The second version which is supposed to last longer and be more robust is the "gray dot" where the is a "gray dot" marked on the coil pack itself. This is just for your information because all dealers carry only the gray dot coils.
Swap coils
Hi All,
Save yourself some money...............
Swap the coil with the coil that is next to it and see if the miss follows the coil.............
If the miss stays at #2 cylinder, the coil is not the problem and you are dealing with a different type of problem..........could be an indicator of a problem with the ECM wiring or the ECM
