car is not starting
car is not starting
hi guy my 2000 gle wont start, it sound like we wants but it just wont,i just replace the fuel pump, and nothing and had another post and a lot of people say that it my be the crank position sensor, or a sensor on the top ofthe gas pedal, i mean it sound like is not getting enough gas, it started just having problems i would step on the gas and everything was fine i would also hear a loud noise coming from the back of the car, but i think is totally unrelate.how can i check if the sensor just need cleaning or something else.
Did you replace the fuel pump and the car would not start immediately after that?
If the crankshaft sensors are a problem, you can try cleaning them. But cleaning is does not usually solve a sensor problem.
You need to determine if you have a no gas situation or a no spark situation. Then we can start to zero in on the cause of the problem.
If you want to down load the Nissan service manual (FSM), go to:
http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/
However, since you have a 2000, you need to get the correct manual. There are 2.
Look at your VIN number. If the last 8 digits are equal to or higher than YT012237 or YT211681 or YT527430 or YT740492, then download the 2000.5 manual. Otherwise download the 2000 manual.

The crank or cam sensor will throw a code, If it's one of those though the car will start after turning it over for a little while, and you can take it to get read, and you car might shut off in the middle of driving after a couple minutes but just start it back up and it should run fine until you shut it back off.
Fuel strainer = fuel filter in our cars. Did you replace the strainer/filter? It is hard to tell if it is good or bad. Most people replace them every so often even though Nissan says they are a lifetime part. I've replaced mine two times over 236,000 miles.
