Bleeding engine mount

Good morning everyone:

The last week when I was parking my car in the garage my dad noticed a spot of "oil" in the ramp. My first thought was "Oh sh*t, My babe it's bleeding!" but after a little examination of the "oil" I noticed that it wasn't oil at all. It was a weird kind of liquid with a rusty like smell. I checked almost every part under my car but I didn't find anything leaking and all the fluid levels was OK.

So the last friday I bring my car for an alignment job and I remember to check the source of the leak and I found that the rear engine mount was bleeding.

And after checking in some parts shops the price of the mount it's at least of $80 dollars. A little bit expensive for a piece of rubber filled with "oil".

And I want to know if I can change the front and rear engine mounts with the M/T engine mounts and if I can get a problem with the ECU if I do that. Thanks a lot!

no you can go with M/T mounts with no ses, I have unplugged my electric mounts because the front one can damage the ecu. I have plans to install a set of ES mounts after I get my lower rad support replaced. Just neatly tape up or zip tie the harness connector and you should be good.

If my rear mount it's leaking, I must unplug it before it damage my ECU?

Clearly it's not working, unplug it and be safe. You can get sets of both engine mounts on eBay for cheap. IIRC, less than $50 shipped.

According to a nissan service manager I spoke with 2 years back its only the front mount that actually can damage the ecu. I agree with chris though just unplug it to be safe cause its clearly not working.

Thanks for the advice guys. I just get the couple of replacement parts for the engine mounts. They are exactly as the original mount but you only need to press the old out and press the news in the support mount.

Replacements price: $42 (both)

VS

Stealership price of engine mount: $480.00 (each engine mount)

The only "bad" part about this it's that I'm going to have normal mounts and not the magic and mystical electric mounts. But it's ok, anything that helps my babe to keep her running.

Pretty sure they dont make mount inserts for the automatic mounts. You understand you'll have to buy the standard mounts for the manual tranny, press those out, then these in. Kind if pointless if you're buying new mounts though, IMO.

The "magical" elect mounts prevent vibration at idle for auto tranny Maximas. Although the vibration is minimal IMHO, that is their purpose.......so you know what to expect.

your right, he is going to have to go to a scrap yard and find a set of manual mounts to gut.

to the OP: You may have been better off with ebay after the hassle you may face with getting all this done. Especially if you don't have the right tools to do it yourself.

Believe or not I found the replacement for my engine mounts BUT without the electrical element that the OEM engine mount got. They fit perfectly into the mount housing.

I was thinking in go to a scrap yard where a 1999 Maxima it's sitting without engine but with the engine mounts. But after I found the replacement engine mounts I forget that idea.

Weird but true, the replacement engine mounts got a hole where fits the sensor but as this mounts aren't filled with the special liquid as the OEM ones, the mechanic filled this gap with silicone (for making them waterproof) and put the sensor in place.

Is there any reason to worry about causing any harm to any other component by unplugging the front engine mount and can this be left this way for an undetermined amount of time?
Thanks
