Opinions are like a-holes, everyone's got one....That price could be high and it might be right. What kind of condition? What model, GXE, SE, GLE, or 20th Ann? Any records on the car? Auto or manual? Any wrecks? In my opinion, you need to give everyone more information before anyone can voice an opinion...

So a loaded up GLE with 180K and no records. I would offer less than that AFTER driving the thing straight to a shop you trust and having it checked out, especially the transmission. The engine can handle 300+K miles, but the transmission won't if it wasn't maintained properly. What state are you in? If you're anywhere that uses salt or chemicals on the road, check for extensive rust. From what I hear, lower radiator supports, core supports, etc... will rust completely out in high-salt/coast states...

Good luck, man. Check out some of the Maximas here. There are some really sweet 6-speeds for sale that are very reasonable.

Why do you want to change the chain? My 98 had 300k miles, it was stock and never had any problems.

I think the price is good. Check for any fluid leaks, rust, check the front suspension and steering.

Normally, one does not need to ever change the timing chain on these cars. It's not like a timing belt. They last a lot longer and are not a regular maintenance item.

Yeah I agree about the timing chain! Thorzdad (a member of the forum) has 400k+ on his 5th gen max and no timing chain replaced. You only need to change it if it stretches or breaks.
