Lost 4th gear/huge puddle of gear oil
Lost 4th gear/huge puddle of gear oil
Im getting on the highway the other night in third gear and do a WOT pull till redline and smacked 4th gear kind of hard and side stepped the clutch.
The car felt like it went into gear but bounced off the rev limiter so i take it out of fourth gear try all the other gears and i only have third and fifth.
drove home and all the other gates seemed to be blocked until i came to a stop, It went into first fine second and third no problems but still no fourth. Second time i came to a light from third all gates were blocked again. I pulled in my driveway where the car sat for 3 day's as i didn't have a chance to get under it.
All of a sudden i wake up this morning and there's a huge puddle of gear oil underneath and it appears to be coming from above the rubber boot where the linkage is. The tranny was rebuilt and is less then a year old and clutch and flywheel are the same. Im sure it's toast but would like an expert opinion.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Don't understand why it didn't leak for two or three day's and i didn't even start the car.

Sounds like 4 gear teeth are gone.. I see your boosted . Gotta get under it and take a peak. Put a pan under it and drain the fluid, look for shavings or chunks. The other gears you say seamed fine so that's why I say the teeth are gone. You have hlsd? Weird that the fluid drained out after days. Put it in fourth while parked and slowly let the clutch out and have someone listen very closely for grinding or anything.

It's weird because sometimes it will go in a gear and sometimes it feels blocked. It is an hsld out of an 01 AE and the drainage thing has me stumped. Fluid didn't seem to have any shavings which is also weird.
no idea why the leak didn't show itself before so i won't speculate on that, but you definitely broke 4th gear it sounds like. the broken teeth in there are sometimes blocking the striking rod from allowing you in certain gears, sometimes not. happens all the time when people break gears.
you could rebuild it but it might just be cheaper and easier for you to pick up another trans

I was wondering when you were gonna chime in
Thanks for the info and it is 4th that broke. I let the clutch out in 4th and you can hear a light grinding noise. 8 month old rebuilt trans too wtf.. I dont think dumping the clutch at 6500 into 4th gear with the clutch i have helped much either. That thing grabs like a sob. I bought a heavier duty clutch than i probably should of with the power the car makes and that might have contributed to the break. I figured it would last longer lolz
