P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor

My 2002 Maxima is throwing a P0335 code. I picked up the sensor, but after looking online I'm not sure if I bought the right one. The sensor I bought looks like this:

But is this one the correct part?

I seem to be finding conflicting information online about whether there is one or two crankshaft sensors.

Additionally, I jacked the car up and was looking around the oil filter which is where I thought the sensor was located but couldn't see anything. The pictures in the FSM are not very helpful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The second photo looks like the crank angle sensor. And yes, it looks like there are two crankshaft position sensors. One on the front of the engine and one on the side. I've never changed either so maybe someone else can chime in with more information.

Crank Position Sensor 1
Crank Position Sensor 2

The top picture is the crankshaft position sensor (REF). It goes by the oil pan on the passenger side of the engine.

The second picture is the camshaft position sensor. It goes on the passenger side of the engine up near the top above the drive belts.

I pulled up the following from another thread:

DTC Detecting Condition Possible Cause P0335

-The crankshaft position sensor signal is not detected by the ECM during the first few seconds of engine cranking.
-The proper pulse signal from the crankshaft position sensor (POS) is not sent to ECM while the engine is running.
-The crankshaft position sensor signal is not in the normal pattern during engine running.
-Harness or connectors
-The crankshaft position sensor circuit is open or shorted.

So it sounds to me like the code is related to the crankshaft position sensor (POS) not (REF). It looks like this:

and it goes on the driver side of the engine, on the front where the transmission and engine are connected together.

I changed mine about 2 months ago. Depending on which one it is teu are different. Mine was bank B in the front part of the engine. The one on the side is a PITA to get down to. I changed B bank and my problems cleared up great. Becareful by running the car with this code it will get to where it won't start at all. Mine did before I could even get home. Cost me a tow

Why would you approach a sensor that's towards the bottom of the engine from the top of it? It's dead simple to access if you remove the splash guard from the passenger side and approach from the bottom of the car.

To start with, the 3.0 engine has 2 crankshaft sensors, CKPS (POS) and CKPS (REF).
The 3.5 engine has one crankshaft sensor, CKPS (POS).
The 3.5 engine uses camshaft sensors to replace the CKPS (REF).

CKPS (POS) is the one at the flywheel and causes the P0335 code.
CKPS (REF) is at the crankshaft pulley and causes the P1335 code.

So I went to the dealership and the initial part I had is wrong. I got a part from them that is similar to the second one only without the metal casing. I'm going to put it in today hopefully so we'll see how it works.

Was it pretty easy to install?
