convince me to buy a 2002 nissan maxima se
i currently have a 2003 audi a4 1.8t automatic. its a great car but not very fast. i also want to buy a car with a manual tranny. so i am wondering if the maxima is a good choice. i made a list of the thing i want in my new car and the nissan seems to fit the bill.
$5,000 with less than 100k miles, manual trans. v6 engine with decent gas mileage, good looking car, 6 seconds or less 0-60 time.
does the 2002 nissan maxima se fit those characteristics, i need you guys to convince me to buy one. also will it be a noticable difference in speed over the audi. i did some research and this seems to be the fastest maxima that i can afford. tell me more about this car and convince me to buy it.
also can someone give me an estimate of how much a few things like carbon fiber hood, nice rims ect. would cost. under a thousand bucks?

the 2002 maxima will tear a audi a4 apart in a race im pretty sure 255 horses is nice, i bought a 03 maxima because i wanted speed that can beat a bunch of sports cars, family sedan that can lugg 5 people no problem, comfort, some luxury (leather seats, ect.) it is under the radar can stand out if you want it too. they have a reliable engine tons better than a audi in reliability but still not as great as a honda/toyota but they can last to 200-350k easily with maitenence. only thing i worry about when buying a max with a vq3.5 is the potential oil burning issue maybe 1000 miles per quart but i dont think mine burns oil yet it has 79k miles and i just bought it 4 months ago. a carbon fiber hood cost around 400-800 i have a vis and its faded but i got some advice from another member here i think his name is flava he clearcoated it 3 times prior to installing cause he went through a few cf hoods due to fading and ****. nice rims maybe some g35 rays, 370z rims, g37 rims would be around 800-1200 used with decent tires unless you want to go to tirerack they have some good prices i would go 18 lightweight rims get a CAI(200 dollars) exhaust(300-1500) headers not sure the range, coilovers used -new (400-2000) you would be happy with the maxima
i am not just being biased cause i own a maxima but it would be great to have another maxima owner in the forums lol. my first car was a 00 and it took a great beating b4 selling it and i like switching up my cars alot so im not sure how long ima keep my maxima for depends on how much it pisses me off with repairs and stuff like that or if i want to switch to get a 350z or a g35. i also have a tsx my tsx has nicer interior and seems more comfortable then my max...
The VQ35 does have good performance potential, but also has a few issues such as burning oil, but some don't burn much while others burn alot. It's a roll of the dice if you get an oil burner or not.
There isn't a large pool of aftermarket performance parts to choose from, but what is out there is of good or better quality. Steer clear of any cheap e-bay stuff.

Not that you can't modify the Maxima to your tastes, but if you're going for OEM configuration, the G is the better car, hands down. I have no regrets with the Maxima, but I wish I'd learned that lesson back in 2002.
None that I can recall.
If you can find one, you want a 2003 G35 Sedan 6MT. Same engine, but with proper RWD, a better stock suspension and a much better shifter & clutch setup.

go for the vq30 and the 5 speed... much better engine... unless you are an oil company you will hate the 02-03 oil burners... and yea congratulations on moving away from the retarded 1.8 and the timing belt replacement show you have to go just to do a regular maintenance... don't get me wrong I love my C4 A6 Avant in which I can do the timing belt in less than an hour but still the maxima is 4dsc under cover

well my friend, let me convince you why not to keep an audi, they suck, expensive on every single detail, nightmare car, if they break get ready with a fat wallet to get it fix, maxima are just cool, good looking, not that expensive even if they break, I'm just saying
Maximas have timing chains, so they never need replacing. Timing chain do have tensioners, however, and should you keep up with your oil changes, the tensioners wont bother you. If they do, like certain rattling sounds during startup, then replace them. Given that the tensioners are in the same vicinity as the water pump, may as well replace that too. A job like that would cost around $500 to $700 on the maxima. There's at least a $2100 maintenance difference right there, and the maxima has the better motor to boot.
A friend of mine has an A4...2002 or 03 I think. He blew his water pump while on the road. Had it towed to Audi. Dealer called recommending he change his timing belt too. He was like go ahead. When all was said an done his car left that dealership and his wallet was $2800 lighter.

That's right, stay away from Audi and get a Maxima.
