I felt the need to give my car a little tune up. I searched these forums and found a how-to on changing my spark plugs. So two days ago, I changed my spark plugs but ran into a few problems. After I put tighten down the intake manifold, I started the car. The check engine light instantly came on. I thought it was from the cleaner that I sprayed into the intake and it will shut off after sometime.

Its been two days with no sign of turning off. The car drives fine. I don't notice any difference but the check engine light. Absolutely any help will be appreciated.

The codes are:

PO 123, Probable cause-open or short circuit condition. poor electrical connection. TPS 2 fault. APP 2 sensor circuit fault. electronic throttle control actuator fault

PO223 Probable cause- open or short circuit condition. poor electrical connection. TPS 1 fault. APP 1 sensor circuit fault. electronic throttle control actuator fault

P1800 Probable cause- failed VIAS solenoid. open or short circuit condition.

P1122 Probable cause- Stuck or sticking throttle plate. poor electrical connection. failed throttle control actuator.

 

You removed the intake manifold to change the spark plugs?

 

Of course!!! How else do you get the rear three on the 3.5?

Make sure you plugged in all of the sensors. Did you move the butterfly by hand? That is a huge no no.

 

I believe I know what I did wrong. When I took off the intake manifold, I pushed open the throttle body with my hand. I guess you should never do that because this car is a drive by wire? From what I researched on here.

My car idles fine (around 700 rpm) and drives normal. It runs just like before. Just the check engine light is on. Should I still buy a new throttle body? I read on here that I might need to buy a new ecu too because the throttle body will burn it out. I'm taking a trip to California from Arizona in two weeks. Would it be a smart idea to take this car?

 

First I'd make sure that all of the plugs are connected. Second, you're most likely on borrowed time with that throttle body.

Something similar happened to us last summer, we opened the butterfly pate by hand when cleaning it out. The car ran fine until that night when the throttle body completely crapped out, it barely moved millimeters with the gas pedal to the floor.

 

Nissan will sell you a re-manufactured throttle body for around $150-200 if i remember correctly. That is what I had to do a few years ago when I did the same thing as you and moved the butterfly by hand. I looked on courtesy and nissanpartszone and they want $550 for it but that is new. Call your local dealer parts dept. Ask them about a re-manufactured one and I also believe it is the same one as the v6 Altima of the same year range.

Thanks for the help! One last question, after I swap out the throttle body, do I have to do any reprogramming? Like the idle relearn procedures. Or is that only when I change my ecu.

 

I think you should perform the idle relearn procedure. Search for it under the "how to" section. I think it is a slight pedal dance or just a key on/off process. I do not remember doing that when I replaced my throttle body though. I did it in the dealer parking lot and it idled perfectly immediately after I started the car. You may want to order the tb gaskets too. I just can't remember if they are the crush type or not.

 

Can't OP just clear his codes and see if it pops back up? Especially before shelling out $$$ for a new TB?

 

He could but it is basically a guarantee that the tb is screwed up after manually manipulating it. If he is going on a long trip, a couple hundred may be worth the peace of mind.

The TB gaskets are that coated metal type. Haven't had any issues reusing them.

I reset the ecu last night and the check engine light shut off. I then went for a drive and everything seemed fine. I did all the idle relearn procedures but I never tried to reset the ecu until now. Should I be fine?

 

Don't know but I am leaning towards no. Give it a couple of days.
