why do you people seem to care so much about the weight of your rims all the time, even if you had light rims, it is such a small percentage of the car's weight, it wouldnt make a difference.
if you can shift better in a 5 speed, you would probably beat someone with lighter wheels, so i just dont think the weight of wheels is an issue at all

It takes more time and energy to get a heavier wheel spinning than a lighter one.

100 lbs of sprung weight is like .1 seconds in 1/4..1 lb heavier in a wheel is like 10 lbs of sprung weight...x4 = 40 lbs = 400 lbs sprung weight=.4 seconds slower..I think(?) something I learned from the org

Do i really have to explain why that was just an asinine post?

It was discussed earlier, but here we go again:
why do you people seem to care so much about the weight of your rims all the time, even if you had light rims, it is such a small percentage of the car's weight, it wouldnt make a difference.
So, the pistons are soooo minimal in the car's weight, reducing the weight of the pistons would mean nothing to acceleration too? What about flywheel weight? Since, it's such a small portion of the overall weight of the car?

Here's a simple thing you can do:
Go and get a 10lb pound sack of nickels. Tie this sack to a rope 10feet long. Get in a large open area and start spinning this sack, paying extra attention to the amount of force (which represents torque in this trick) that is required to get this sack to speed.

Now, remove half the nickels and bring the weight of the sack to 5lbs...now spin this sack around again, paying attention to amount of force it requires (which is going to be lesser). This is the EXACT SAME PHYSICAL property that makes cars go FASTER with LIGHTER rims.

if you can shift better in a 5 speed, you would probably beat someone with lighter wheels, so i just dont think the weight of wheels is an issue at all
This was the part that was REALLY funny!
Let's use another example:
3100lb curb weight (including driver) 2000 Maxima 5spd w/ 17" (45lb/ea wheel)
3100lb curb weight (including driver) 2000 Maxima 5spd w/ 17" (28lb/ea wheel)

Assuming each driver shifts and launches exactly the same, who wins? Yes, this is highly hypothetical, but it's for the sake of making a33 realize how retarded his post was.

A33, understand now?

And I would tell you who has the dumbest post to date (from my experience)...but Russ would get mad. jk.

Okay, I don't want to sound stupid, but how come the max in your photo looks like it's rear wheel drive?

u think so?
think again...you can do a simple, easy test to prove this theory..
go find a pair of shoes that weighs alot more than your regular pair of shoes..try running as fast as you can...then go back to your regular pair of shoes and then try running again..u'd feel the different right away....u'd know what i mean..

You gotta admit... that last story was even more far-fetched than the 14sec SC Camry kill...

I think Russ just posts stories to re-enforce his belief that the Maxima owns all, including the mother of all cars, the Mini Cooper

Driven EF9: that was exactly what i was saying, you are sayin that if two drivers are the exact same, the one with the lighter wheels would win, then realistically, drivers are not the same, why dont you spend time tryin to be the better one, instead of lookin at lighter wheels cuz you always end up losing, and no one cares abot launching like you anyways, thats only for people that cant drive....

and dont give me all the piston crap, everyone knows what they do and how their weight affects the performance, cant compare it to the wheels

hmmm...i guess what i was trying to say was that since most drivers are just about the same(otherwise, don't even try), if you can save some extra weight on rims, that would be beneficial to your performance...and ur right, rims aren't the only factor..but yet, it's important.
