TSB's and Recalls Inquiry on 2001 SE

Hi All,
After scouring the boards here for a few days and trying to put together a game plan I am going to attempt a new thread. I apologize in advance for this if it is not appropriate and should be moved or closed. I'm new here and can't figure out what to do about it.

Here's where I'm confused...
I bought the autocheck report and it doesn't have anything on it but the registration every 2 years and a mileage check @125,000 with a sale to a second party. About 1 yr later I purchased it with 147,000. So I guess my question is would the recalls {there are 2 I think} and any TSB fixes be on that report if it was dealer serviced? The original owner purchased the gold warranty with 8/80,000 and although there are no slips in the manual that came with it I'm assuming there are service records at the dealer whose cards are in the book. Besides getting under there and looking for the parts info under the hood is there any way to find out? Should I call the people who's cards are in the booklet? Might they be helpful in determining these details? Once the used car warranty is up {6 mo/6,000} I am considering taking the car there for something small and maybe picking their brain. Any suggestions?

Also what gives with the TSB's? I know they aren't recalls but I can't quite grasp what they are and how to use them. Please forgive my ignorance I am trying to learn.

Recalls are only issued to a car to a certain time point, unless it's something that affects the safety of the vehicle. Usually by this time, anything that might have become a problem has been dealt with.

TSB's are not like a recall and if you have it done, you will have to pay for it. And unless you are having a problem with whatever the TSB may be about, you would be wasting your money.

Your dealer should be able to run the VIN and tell you if any factory recalls have been performed on the car.

Recalls are usually related to safety so they are valid for the entire life of the vehicle. If the recall has been done it's flagged in Nissan America's database.

TSB is sort of a cheat sheet for the techs, where if vehicles come in with these problems they know how to properly diagnose it and correct it. TSB does not affect safety most of the time and is optional meaning if you are out of warranty you will get charged for the process.

Thanks all for the helpful replies! I did contact the dealer where the car was serviced during the warranty and they said all the repair records were purged and they have no info on history. I guess I will have to do my own investigation on what parts are stock and what has been replaced/repaired. This forum has been super helpful and I am mot grateful for all the info from those who have gone before me. Cheers!

youre not looking for service history, you're looking for VIN history. That would include any TSB's, Warranty, or Recall repairs. Any of those repairs are reported to NISSAN USA/North america and will be held indefinately on record.

Thank you I know the searching on recalls is done through the vin, nothing at all comes up in the autocheck paid search on recall stuff. Wouldn't it be in there? I think one of the recalls was pretty crucial. Thanks in advance for the help.

Sorry personally have no experience wasting money on programs like that.

Even car-fax is pointless because you can go to the DMV and get the same report for less money.

Likewise, a simply call to Nissan North america or your local dealer will give you all that information for free. And it is way more accurate.

Thank you, too late for saving money on that for me.

Looks like it's going to be a mystery until it becomes an issue, hopefully I can drive it a while before anything else goes wrong.

http://www.nissanusa.com/apps/contactus/recall

for anyone reading this in the future, you can fill this form out and in a few days nissan will contact you back letting you know if there are any open recalls on your maxima or any nissan vehicle

Here is the only recall that Nissan is responsible for. There a 3 other recalls that apply to this year model as well as others. These other recalls are for aftermarket corner light assemblies made by other companies. I don't think that Nissan will list these.

To get recall information go to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...callsearch.cfm and enter the year/make/model info of your car.

Code:
Make: NISSAN Model: MAXIMA
Model Year: 2001
Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. Report Receipt Date: MAY 30, 2002
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 02V146000 NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM

Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE PIN AT THE END OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION
TRANSVERSE LINK (LOWER CONTROL ARM) COULD BREAK WHERE IT IS MOUNTED TO THE
FRAME.

Consequence:
THIS CAN CAUSE A KNOCKING SOUND AND ABNORMAL STEERING. THIS COULD RESULT IN
DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE TRANSVERSE LINKS ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES WITH NEW
ONES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 29, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO
AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE
REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR
INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.

Notes:
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S
AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
