Slow cranking, but battery is fine
Slow cranking, but battery is fine
The car cranks very slow, almost like the battery is dead. But, the battery is fine, battery connections are fine (had both checked, including replacing battery, problem remains). Once the car is running, everything works fine, no dash lights or other electrical problems. Any clues as to what else could be causing this? Bad starter?
TIA!

^^^ this.
The lubrication in the gear reduction section of the starter is drying up and the gears are binding. Sometimes you can re-lube them and the starter will work OK, but I think your starter is too far gone for this to help.

Thanks, guys, for the quick responses. Mechanic confirmed it is the starter, he checked the rest of the electrical circuit for proper grounding, and the state of the positive battery connection, and all looked good. Oh well, figure after 153,000 miles, shouldn't be complaining too much!!

So, got the car back, starts up great now! While it was there, also had him change the drive belts.
One thing we noticed when we got the car back is that the clock isn't lit up, and the trip odometer resets to zero every time you start the car. Bad fuse? If so, any idea which one? I pulled the fuse cover, and nothing said clock. It's night time now, so not feeling like investigating further, probably won't have a chance until the weekend, but if anybody has any ideas, would certainly appreciate it!
