Gas & brake pedals too close

I have a size 12 foot and my foot always gets caught up on the brake pedal when I take my foot off the gas. It happens with tennis shoes and pretty much cant drive it with boots on. I searched and found other people talking about it but no solutions. Can I swap a manual brake pedal in and have more room? Anyone know how hard it is to do?

Here is the i30:

and here is my Xterra:

I noticed the same thing when driving a 4th gen....maybe they were designed for small Japanese feet?

Maybe you can take the rubber cover off and cut the pedal to your liking with a cutting wheel?? Then find a different rubber cover. Sort of ghetto rig it.

I wear 13 EE and drive to work with my Red Wing steel toes on everyday, I've never noticed an issue in my 02 Max.

I wouldn't think that the i30 has closer pedals than a Maxima....unless they are positioned differently due to the foot ebrake? In that first pic my foot is actually under the brake pedal.

I'd go to autozone and find a smaller rubber cover the brake, choose a size your comfortable with and remove the current rubber cover and cut the pedal on the ride side until you can install the smaller cover on it and it'll look good and work for you

I didn't know Autozone had different sized ones....are they in that HELP section? If not I might just check next time I am at the JY and find a car with a smaller pedal

thanks

They should have 2 or 3 in the 'help' section. If nothing else just hit the junkyard and find something like Geo Metro and pull the pad off. Then you are a quick grind away from a smaller pedal.

Surely it's not hard to swap a manual brake pedal in there. But i think the distance between the gas/brake is the same. the auto car just has a brake peddle that extends further left. I have the same issue in my '89 Maxima 5sp (different animal, I know). But, I'm with you, I'm a 13 wide and I hit the underside of the brake pedal often (both cars). I just dismiss it.

Course, on my '89, the distance had a benifit at the track, I could hold the brake and press the gas at the same time to keep the car in the box while keeping my rpms up in order to launch. I'd just slip my foot right off the brake as I pressed further down on the gas.

IMO, if its really an issue, heating and slightly bending the shaft is a reasonable answer.

He could pull it off the car and heat it elsewhere...like in a bench vise.
