I30 Sunshade Wiring Question

I30 Sunshade Wiring Question
I picked up an automatic sunshade with rear deck last week. I bought all necessary supplies to do the job & wanted to wire this up this weekend. When looking at the sunshade wire i noticed it did not match exactly what i was expecting to see:
To me it looks like it is missing the piece that pugs in here with the wires coming out the other end. like this picture:
My question is do i need this piece (looks like relay box?) thats in the above picture in order to wire this in? Or is there a way to wire this up in the condition that it is in?
My sunshade is in the first 3 pictures. I was trying to wire using the last picture with the hand holding the wires.

Doesn't look like a realy box. Looks like a disconnect. I doubt it will make any difference. I'd just cut it off. You can extend the existing wires if you have to. I'd also try to dig up the I30 FSM just to be sure.

This helped alot. It's funny what u can learn if u just study & do a little research. When i started looking at the diagrams today i was like ??. Now i look at it & it's way easier. Good looks on the info. I know where to wire everything. Just trying to see if this box is vital to the install or if it can just be cut. But what i'm hearing from others is that it is not needed. Anyone else can confirm this?

I think they had two different types of shades that the I30 came with because i just put one in my Max a month ago and the one i have looks like what you got and not like the other and ill have to go look at how i wired mines up but i do know its similar to how the write up is but the wire colors are different.

Yeah please let me know. I dont want to start doing anything till i hear how urs is wired up. Shouldn't be too hard though.

Ok yours should have a black box on the other side of it thats the control box now i cut connector off mine but it should be 5 wires 3 are bundled together and the other 2 are bundled together, the 3 wires together are to power the unit it has a black red and white wire. The red and white are power, one is switched the other is constant and the black is ground i tied both red and white together and wired them in to the switched power for my Bose sub, now the other 2 control up and down they both work by grounding if you ground one it goes up ground the other it goes down those wires are black and white one once you get power to the unit just play with them to see which does what, and did you get the stock switch for it?

ok. cool. I am going to give it a try tomorrow. Yeah i have a switch but it is missing a piece also:
I am going to connect the wires to some female connectors and heat wrap them individually with shrink wrap tubes. Seems like the easiest & safest way to wire up without any shorts. I will keep u posted with the progress. was gonna attempt today but my chrome gauge rings and instrument cluster bulbs came in today so i did those changes.

It's very simple to wire but you will need the plug if you want to use the factory button. Sunshade, not so much but it's good to have a disconnect.
Wiring is real simple:
Black: Ground you can tap into the one under the bolster on the driver's side of the car.
White: 12v Power. Since you are running wires anyways make a 3 wire harness and tap it into the power point on the back of the armrest.
Red: Up signal
Green: Down Signal
Basically the sunshade is always hot, and supply's power to the red and green wires. Once one of them grounds, the shade will go into operation in the direction it was grounded (Red gets grounded, shade goes up. Green gets grounded, shade goes down)
Simple way to make a harness:
Grab about 15 feet of wire equal lengths, 14-16 gauge in three different colors preferably red green and white. Tie them to a stationary object and stretch them out. tighten your drill chuck on one end and then start twisting. GO until it starts curling over on itself.
As for the factory button, if you can't find a plug for it then temporarily install a momentary on - off - momentrary on switch and just poke it out under the center console. 2nd gen I30s are getting a little more common in the JY so you should be able to find the plug sooner than later.

I finally finished wiring this sucker in! Thanks to all the help from everyone. Basically it was a piece of cake once i knew what wires to connect. The biggest issue was trying to wire this in like the factory did. I ended up using electrical tape around all the wiring to make a tight harness and zip ties the wires to existing wires to give it a nice clean look. I ran the wires under the floor panels right by the doors, under the steering wheel, through the back of the HU. Then tapped into the cigarette lighter power & ground. I'm 100% satisfied with this install. The only trouble i am having is fitment of the i35 deck in my Max. For some reason i am having trouble getting the deck to fit over the center seat belt anchor. it is not lining up. the other two seat belts fit perfectly but not the center. Anyone experience this? Any tips/ideas on how to get this to fit in? Also did u guys use the maxima subwoofer cover or the i30? i noticed the Maxima subwoofer cover is bigger than the opening on the I30 rear deck.

Where did you mount your switch? I put mine in my coin holder.
Yes, I ran into the same problem with the anchor in the centre, and had to remove it. I got a unit out of an I30 and while the deck is different from the 5.5 gen, it can be made to fit, and having a different sub cover doesn't affect the music sound.
Trick feature eh? Love this mod.

Yeah i put the switch in the coin holder spot. If i find another place to mount i will try it, but i want it to look factory installed, not some DIY project. I will remove the center anchor tomorrow & see if there is a way i can install it after i put the deck back in. I also noticed that the I30 & I35 sunshades are slightly different. The I35 one is mostly black and looks like it has a sturdier base & better quality, while the I30 one is Greyish (Like graphite) and the I30 switch has the picture sideways unlike the I35 where the picture is orientated in the same way as the button. Just thought i would point that out.

going to install mines when it gets a little warmer but great info. question i have would the sunshade fit if u a custom rear deck???? 3 10in speakers with 2 tweeters in the rear. this is my plan but don't see this happening.

It would probably work. For the best results you might have to cut out the area around the sunshade opening so u can use it on your new custom deck. When everything is done all you have to do is reupholster the top and it will look brand new. If you just cut out an area for the sunshade in your custom deck, the sunshade will be sticking out through the top. The I30/35 rear deck elevates over the sunshade to hide it. the shade is really only visible when it is up. With just an opening for the shade in your custom deck, the shade will always be visible. Feel free to PM me with any questions about the install

I know the 2001 deck is more refined but I have yet to find an intact one in the jyard so I haven't experimented with it yet. But I think it's much closer than the 2000 deck.
The sub cover is different from the i30 to the Maxima. It's a tad more rectangular so you better get it with the rear deck. It's just a chunk of plastic, dismantlers don't want that stuff anyway.
