Farwell to my Max....

This car gave me more smiles, laughs, and headaches then I could have ever imagined when I bought it. It never let me down and in the end it saved my life. No one was seriously hurt and I am thankful to be here writing this post. Ironically the collision was with a 4th Gen, which too is likely totaled. I plan on buying another 5th gen here shortly.

Just wanted to say to all my fellow .orgers, be careful. In the end its a hunk of steel.

Thank you all for your thoughts and I still have to meet with the insurance adjuster tomorrow. The car just had a new set of tires put on it that Id like to save as well as a RSB and set of spacers. Not sure what I am allowed to take off the car though once the insurance company totals it.

Just remember, once the insurance company totals it you can buy it back. They'll usually only charge you a couple hundred bucks for it.

Glad your ok. Your insurance should give you the choice of a small check and keep the car or a full payment and they keep your car.
My girlfriend backed into mine a few years back and almost totaled mine.
She had progressive, and that's what they told me there.

Wow she did her job and luckily everyone walked away from it. Good to hear you're alright. Yeah, it is a hunk of metal but I'd be devastated if I totaled mine. Kudos for staying positive and good luck finding another!

That's a Titanium Edition 6MT, isn't it? Man, that looks showroom. Very nice find.

You did that in only 4 days?

Hot damn that bish is clean!

Quite a turn around time, looks like the Maxima gods aligned the stars for you. Nice find!

It does look like a TE from the looks of the wheels.

Trying to find a manual Maxima around here can be tough.

Ill post up some more pics tomorrow but it really is my dream Maxima. One owner, low miles, HLSD, and bone stock. Cant wait to put in NWP spacers and a RSB. Might be able to pull the RSB off my old max, but the spacers are going to be harder (if not impossible) to take off the car without getting static from the insurance company. Even without spacers though this thing puts my old 5.5 4 AT to shame.

Yes sir, sure is. The inside is just as nice as the outside too.

Kinda quick turnaround but when I saw this I couldn't let it pass. Didnt feel right driving any other car TBH.

One owner car, couldn't let this one pass me up. Had to take a loan though while the insurance company decides how much my last 5th gen was worth. There gonna have fun when I submit the documentation for the $3000 worth of work I had done this year before the car was totaled...

You're telling me. When I bought my first 5th gen two years ago there was only one manual Max in the state and it had rusted fenders. There were two in the state of Colorado as of two days ago. Test drove both. This one was much better then the other one. It feels tighter then my old 5th gen did(and it had new control arms, sway bar links, and tie rods before it was totaled).

I thought so... the TE rims are shiny and darker than the SE rims. Also, it's difficult to tell for sure in the shadows of your picture, but the car color looks like Polished Titanium. Gotdamn, son! A fully loaded Polished Ti 6MT? In my opinion, that there is just about the best year, model and optioned out Maxima ever made.

You're really, really going to enjoy owning and modifying this car. Makes me feel a little wistful, actually. I need to go drive my G and shake that off, LOL!

Very nice Max, even though it looks like it's on jack stands.

Sorry about your loss. I lost my 350Z two months ago and I'm still depressed.

Polished titanium color huh? I looked around for that when shopping for my maxima, i settled with a blue 03 titanium edition 6spd HLSD, its like nobody has that color great find man. Definitely worth pulling out a loan then waiting for the cash, when i found mine i borrowed money from a friend then waited for my income taxes to pay back, i just couldnt let it go

Damn, sorry to hear about your accident but I guess it all turned out to be for a good cause. Not only were you (or the other Maxima owner) hurt but you also got a nice upgrade!

I'd love to convert my 02 SE 6spd into an "02 SE Titanium Edition" I dont care if it was only for 03s!

that is a nice looking car, those hlsd's 6 speeds are hard to find especially with low miles and great condition.

good luck with this car.

Sorry for the delay guys, had a snow storm this weekend which made for less than ideal conditions.

Anyway here are some more pics, the car needs a bath for sure.

And some thoughts after driving it for a couple days:

  • 2nd gear pulls are addicting, this car puts my 4AT to shame.
  • sometimes when you shift at high rpm, the engine continues to rev even though you have taken your foot off the gas, my guess is its the electronic throttle body not keeping up.
  • 3rd gear feels occasionally notchy, but from what ive heard thats normal.
  • Hard launches =mad wheel hop, something I never experienced with my 4AT.
  • The HLSD is useless if you have one tire on ice and the other on pavement, thought at first something was wrong until I did some more reading on the .org and realized thats just because of how it works.
  • The Bose stereo isnt all that great, it skips while playing CDs and has blurry highs and empty bass, the head unit does look better then my single din pioneer I had in my other Max though.
  • The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S dont grip worth a darn on snow compared to my Continental Extreme contact DWS on my old 4AT. Going to see if I can pull my old tires (and G35 wheels) off my old 4 AT.

Aw man, you even got the Frost Leather interior... my personal favorite over black. Sweet.

You need a new shift ****. $60 OEM, and you will be very, very happy.

Was thinking the same thing actually, its the only thing in the interior that has significant signs of wear. Curious though as to the color, my shift **** is black and so is the one listed on courtesy parts. Is the one in your picture black as well? Looks almost grey.

Yours look more black because it's become shiny over the years. The new one will have a more satin look to the leather. When you get it in your hands, you'll be amazed at how much better the shift **** is brand new vs. 10 years old.

C'mon, it's Xmas. Treat yourself to some icing on that cake.

I got a new shift **** for christmas last year. Very worth it especially if the rest of your interior is in good condition. Also, I think OEM all weather floor mats would look nice (you would actually need them since you have snow, not here in FL).

This site is a little cheaper:

Said my final good byes...

The other drivers insurance company accepted liability and offered 5k for the car which wasn't terrible for an 02 with 135k on it. Definitely wont recoup the cost of maintenance but life isnt always a bowl of cherries as my dad says.

I pulled the RSB, my aftermarket speakers, and G35 wheels with two week old Continentals. Had to swap my speakers with some cheapo ones from Wall Mart and remounted my 16's with some used tires. Two of my G35 wheels needed to be replaced as well as a tire. The stupid tire replacement warranty discount tire sold me was actually useful.

Thought I'd share some pictures-- quite a few (perhaps too many) tbh but Im trying to reach a sense of closure.

The night I purchased it. I still remember the excitement.

The morning after, with a nice wax job.

First mod, what a PITA the first time around.

NWP Spacers. My favorite mod. Going to be the first mod on my 6MT. Unfortunately didnt have enough time to pull them before signing over the title.

Mt Evans. The VQ is lazy as hell at 14,000 ft.

Probably my favorite picture. Too bad its out of focus.

Didnt get stuck that day, typical Maxima moment for ya.

Immediately after the crash. Maybe someone will make a meme.

At the boneyard in a very pitiful state. I kinda wonder if this qualifies as a "small overlap" accident as the damage to the crash beam is very localized and the impact didnt even smash the grill (it detached with the bumper). If so Id say the Max did rather well.

Kinda was hoping I'd never see these in my lifetime, but at least they did the job.

The black spots are from the battery acid that was sprayed all the way down the side of my car from the 4th gen I hit. The battery acid also got all over the wheel which destroyed the finish.

My Maximas side by side. Its amazing how emotion defies logic. I still would rather be driving the one on the right.

wow, good pickup with the new max! Sorry about the first, but she did her job and kept you safe, so you could get another one. Glad you were able to take some stuff from her though...so a part of the old one is still with you in the new one.
