I am getting a constant clicking sound from the drivers side dash on my 03 Max (link below is to audio of the clicking) it sounds like the turning signal on steroids and is coming from the same area as the turn signal clicks. The clicking starts as soon as I start the car and stops when car is turned off. When I put the hazard or turn signal on, I get the normal turn signal clicking but as soon as I turn the turn signal off, it starts the fast clicking again. Also, none of the lights are blinking when the fast clicking is happening. Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix it?

you might have better luck posting to Youtube. Said I needed to register and/or download the file.... A clicking from under the dash could be a bad blend door or mode door for the climate control.

As far as the clicking goes, I believe there might be some relays in that area you describe. Whenever I turn on or off the rear window defroster, I hear a click sound. Maybe you have a relay going bad?
Interesting... My guess would be the turn signal switch itself or the relay. Hopefully someone else who has experienced this can chime in.

You might have to do some dis-assembly to find the source of the clicking. Try to pinpoint and feel around for it. I would start with removing the driver side knee bolster and looking in there.

By the sounds of your original post, it was that relay making the noise (since the rate of clicking slowed down when you activated the turn signal/hazard flasher)
Just for kicks, I"d pull the flasher unit and look for moisture or corrosion while its still in "freshly guilty" mode, maybe you have a small leak somewhere that was making it mad.

Good idea. I don't know what the flasher unit is so where can I find it on the car?Originally Posted by Montego Murph

When you are sitting behind the steering wheel, it is above your left knee. I don't know if you can get to it without taking the lower dash panel off, but that is not all that difficult at all.

Hi everyone,
I've recently bought Maxima 1995 and i have exeact same problem. I have changed relay already and that didn't solve problem. It can be that i just had bad luck with new and that is not working properly either (which i doubt).
It has it moments when it's ticking all day constantly, and sometimes stops by it self, and starts randomly every now and then. It is becoming annoying, more because of fact that no one on google seems to have soulution for that (except to sell car)
.
if some one has found soulution or have an idea, please, advise.
Thanks
Vedran

What you need to do is locate the exact part that is making the click. Remove the lower dash panel that is below the steering wheel and touch the various parts under the dash. When you touch the one that is clicking, you will feel the vibrations from the clicking. Then you will know exactly what to work on.
Also, this forum is for the 2000 though 2003 Maxima, called the 5th generation. Your car is a 4th generation Maxima, 1995 through 1999. The two generations are not the same. If you look under you dash and compare it to the photo posted here, you will see that they are different. Please post in the 4th generation forum, you will get more responses.

Thank you guys for your reply.
I didn't want to open a new topic as it's exact same problem on my 4th gen maxima (maybe i will start one after all).
I have changed one relay already (found which one is it, turning signal under the steering wheel dash...) and that didn't help.
Alarm is factory one, nothing extra is installed.
Cheers
