Clutch Replacement Recommendations

I have a Excedy Stage one right now and it only has about 40k on it and it is starting to slip. I am not very impressed with it since the stock clutch got me almost 100k. I am looking to go with something different and keep the cash to a minimum. I have a couple people that recommended LUK, so I was looking at a LUK flywheel for a 2002 maxima and people say that a 05-06 350Z clutch works in the MAX and gives it a little better feel and everything. So I was going to match it up with a LUK clutch for a 350Z. I just wanted to know peoples opinions on this and if anyone has used a LUK flywheel or clutch for the MAX. For both it only runs $450.
Thanks for the responses

not too exited about the Excedy clutches neither... I have one in my 96 Corolla and the teeth on the pressure plate and the bearing are going out after 50K... the clutch disk still grabs but come on... the old clutch in that corolla lasted 135K... On my 2000 Maxima the clutch is still grabbing strong after 198K, needless to say I am either buying one from the dealer when the times comes or I am getting the ACT, some people here have good things to say about them...

I was under the impression that Exedy was a major OEM supplier for Nissan. Is this incorrect? Irregardless, I'll be installing a JWT flywheel and clutch as soon as it warms up a bit.

What type of flywheel do you have now? Stock, Fidanza, JWT..
Curious to know why you went with a stage 1 clutch?

Never heard of LUK but i found this however

Matt93SE = Matt Blehm here on the Org...lol
He'd know what he was talking about too.

My contribution to the thread:
I just bought a Bahnhof Stage 1 kit from eBay. There were some old reviews on here and for the price I figured 'why not'. I'll post later in a couple of weeks after install on how it went and how the driving is.

I don't personally know how LUK is but good luck if you go that route.

Well, thank you all for the feedback, I think jtw is the way to go. I had the original flywheel in when I put the stage 1 clutch in. Didn't think there would be a problem, I do t gun it that often. The stage 1 was just a cheap price when I replaced my clutch the first time only $200 once discounts were applied 3 years ago.

The Exedy Stage 1 clutch is a sprung clutch is it not?? You shouldn't use a sprung clutch with the factory dual mass flywheel. This could be some of the reason for the short life. Either stay with an OEM un-sprung clutch or replace your flywheel.

I always try to use high quality parts when doing a job that takes that much labor.

And I'm using my stock flywheel with the JWT Stage 1. Resurfaced it though.

I just baught a Z33 OEM clutch kit. I'm just waiting for it to get here and I'm gonna install it and let you know how it is. I really haven't heard much negatives bout that kit in our Max's so lets see what happens.

I've heard that the Z33 clutch with JWT flywheel combo is really good. The Z33 clutch has a higher torque capacity than the Maxima one and is considerably cheaper. There have been a lotta threads on whether JWT is better or Fidanza, but the one thing I have come across is that Fidanza users have complained of chatter, whereas JWT users haven't had any problems. Just take that into consideration when you're making your decision

The 350Z flywheel will NOT work. The teeth are different.

Here are the JWT part numbers that I received in an email directly from them...

LALT2-NF000 Billet aluminum flywheel 15lbs, fits 02+ Maxima, $450.00

LSER2-NC000 JWT performance clutch/disc $299.00 For 2002-2006 Maxima/Altima V6, has 900kg clamping force (use this for 400hp or less)

L3503-NC000 Hi-Performance clutch kit (pressure plate and disc,) 1200kg clamping force fits 2002+ Maxima with 3.5L engine $485.00 (use this for over 400+ hp up to 600hp potential)

Rebel is right. The Flywheel won't work. The clutch should, however. I haven't heard of anyone getting anything other than an OEM Z33 clutch for a Max, but I wouldn't see the harm in it considering they have to meet the OEM fitment requirements with aftermarket products

I would never buy Exedy and Spec clutches from my own personal experience. OEM clutch held up way better than the two I've mentioned.

I just installed the JWT clutch and flywheel combo with only 150 miles on it. Its a little stiffer than the stock clutch I had but not bad at all. I can tell a difference in performance and think its a great combo to have. No unusual noises either.

I am going to go the same way, the JWT light weight flywheel and the clutch from them as well, where did you get it and the price if you don't mind, I found it on mynismo.com and the flywheel is 361 and the clutch is 280 if I am reading them right,

LSER2-NC000 NISSAN ALTIMA 2002-2006 3.5 ; Req. JWT Flywheel $280
LALT2-NF000 NISSAN MAXIMA 2002-2006 3.5 $361

Nissan has more than one supplier I am sure. Exedy is one of them.

old post i know.....BUT its relevant. Just picked up a 6mt that week ago got a clutch at a shop by previous owner. His shop used LUK clutch. Its the first time iv driven a 6 speed max so i have nothing else to compare to. Still in break in period as well.

Can others chime in if LUK is reputable or some bogus trash?
