Well I've owned 3 Maxima's All 4th Gens figured I'd upgrade a little n hop n a 5th gen and WOW I Love it!!!


Well I removed the entire stock filter box and Got a MAF Adapter and installed a 3in Air filter and its still Completely silent! My 99 OPENS UP when i did this this one still silent sounding why is that? same motor!


its a SE 5speed.

 

It's because you still have the factory resonator box in place. It makes it much quieter than if you just had a midpipe on there. Besides, 00-01 makes better power with it in place.

 

the 4th gens I left the mid pipe in place and it still loud....and how would it loose power? seems like the box restricts flow and just not a good flow of air compared to smooth straight mid pipe.

 

if your intake has even the slightest air leak it will kill the sound.

Instead of the air being FORCED to filter through the filter, some is sneaking past lowering the pressure, thus killing sound

I had the same problem, turn out i had a tiny air leak. I now RTVd my MAF, and made sure its 100% air tight

at WOT the car sounds like an exotic viper or something (no lie)

i also removed the resonator, but have tried with it before, and it should still produce a somewhat satisfying sound
