tallest tire for a 5.5 maxima?

ive got over 100 tires in 235/55/17 im curious if anyone thinks these will fit, i know its going to raise the car some, but im not worried about that, they are free tires, all are 50-75% tread goodyear eagle RSA tires (removed from crown vic's in police fleet cars) im leaning towards they wont fit, but im curious if anyone else has tried, traction is a big issue with my NON-LSD 2002 max 6mt so the wider larger tires may help alittle.

any suggestions?, currently i have 225/45/17's on the car, best case ill switch back to stock 225/50/17's. or goto 235/45/17's or 245/45/17's

Traction is an issue with your tires, not your power level, tire width, or non-HLSD.

If your car isn't lowered, they should work fine (new tires are 1.32" taller). Your speedometer will be slightly off, but that's not a huge deal since they're off from the factory anyhow. Keep in mind it will be off in that you'll be going faster than indicated (+5%).

right now i have BFgoodrich geforce KDW NT tires, but they are pushing 5-6 years old and they sat for 3-4 of those years on a shelf in my garage, they are by far the loudest tires ive ever owned.

thanks for the response, ill mount the 235/55/17's on the stock rims and see how they fit, i cant mount the tires, i just dont have a balancer so ill have to take them somewhere to be balanced.

basically at 70MPH ill actually be doing about 73 MPH give or take a small % of a MPH

i can live with that, the extra ground clearance will help with where i live also.

Always seems to be lower than GPS and of course the police radar thingies low by about 2-3 MPH when doing 60.

I've seen this with the stock 225/50-17's and also 245-40 18's (18's are -0.54%, so basically stock).

Same goes for the factory tachometer, don't even get me started on that thing.

Where do you live where you need more ground clearance than the stock 5th gen's ride height already provides? The only part of the underside that hangs down low is the resonator, and you can delete that and put pipe in its place if you need extra ground clearance.

My g/f's neighborhood has large speed bumps that are at least 6in tall, and some might be taller. I can go over them without scraping, and I have no problems going down the dirt road my dad lives on. It only gets grated once a month.

im in charleston WV, 99% of the time id never need more ground clearance, my contour SVT never would drag in most places, however the maxima is alittle longer and pulling into and out of driveways/parking lots can cause scraping, or bagging in the center, my parents driveway is steep and 90% of the cars (not suv's or trucks) drag going into it. there's alot of unpaved driveways around here too once your out of city limits.

I live 1.5 south of you in the mountains, my max was lowered on Eibachs and I would take it on rocky trails with my mountain bike strapped to the trunk or drive up rough trails to go hunt and never got stopped. It did scrub the bottom of the car lightly from time to time, but never anything bad... Stock suspension with 55 tires will get you anywhere...

Can't do that with the bimmer anymore... That snow storm yesterday was miserable on low profile summer tires. I need an old beat up pickup truck in working condition... You got anything up there for about $1k?

got the 235/55/17's mounted on the factory 2001 SE rims i had, they fit the rims perfect and seem to fit the car great, traction is improved, however ride comfort is GREATLY improved, the tires are alittle bigger than i was expecting them to look, they fill the rear wells almost completely, the front wells are nearly full also, i have no rubbing though and im surprised i dont, ive put about 3 miles on them so far and done a large burnout to test traction, 1st and second will spin, but it catches second gear now and goes, before i could burn all through second gear and then catch going into third, im going to sit aside 2 extra sets of four tires from my huge stash of 235/55/17 tires and it should last me years to come. Ill post some pictures of the car as it sits here in alittle bit, Please keep in mind that the rear bumper on the car is not painted yet, its still KT3 color, and my car is the pearl white. I also have a set of the 2002 SE rims im going to mount a set of these tires on so ill have a set to quick change if i ever need to.

About a month ago I got some 225/60/17 Blizzaks. The tire shop refused to mount them because they would be too close to/under the front strut.

225/60/17 is 1.8" taller than the stock 225/50/17's the 235/55/17's are 1.2" taller than stock, mine are VERY close to the strut tower perches, probably 1/2" or so, the 225/60/17's would be even closer, probably 1/8th-1/4" away.
