2002 HID Lighting Issue (Strange)

Hello All,

I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima with the HID headlights. Here is the issue: About a month ago I noticed that one of the lights left one (when looking at them from the front) did not turn on when the other one did. So I ordered a new set of 6K HIDS. Before I put them in I also noticed that if I turned the lights on, then off, on then off a few times.... that by the fourth time doing so it would turn on. This continued even after I installed the new HID bulbs. Now, both of them do not turn on until, I follow the same process... on, off, on, off, etc... Could this be a relay (high beam) this is what some dude at Autozone said..... Thank you for your help!!

It's a bad connection somewhere. Chances are the power wire from your main harness to your ballasts. If that is checked out, it could be connection inside the ballasts which is pretty much done deal, get a new ones type of thing. High beam relay has nothing to do with this. Get a multimeter from Autozone and measure the voltage accross the power wire before going into the ballasts. If that is good, make sure the connection is good. If you wiggle the connection/plug and lights goes in/out, then you have bad connector somewhere. Ballast is either on/off, either you have connection or don't have one

don't forget turning HID bulbs on and off in a small amount of time shortens their life.

with that said I am surprised Nissan still designed the factory alarm to turn the headlights on and off being that they are HID.

good luck checking the relays, and post back the results!
