5th Gen Manual Trans Leak,&& Type of Gearoil.
its a 01 Se 5 speed 204k.....I bought 2 weeks ago everything is great on it,but when i jacked it up my tranny is FULL of a really bad leak and smells like gear oil to me. i cannot pin point the leak cause their is just so much,i pressure washed under the car and next day tranny was covered again so that didnt help, from the looks its comming from where the shifter linkage goes into the tranny and that dust seal is really soft.
also,i have serached and read that DO NOT put a Gear oil in that is for GL4 and Gl5 applications the problem is every gear oil i find is for both and not a single one for gl4 only not even Amsoil has it, so what gear oil do i really need to buy for it? and will Lucas Stop Slip help this leak?

Pull the fill plug while on a level surface to make sure its not totally overfilled.
If any comes out of the fill hole, let it until it doesn't then put the plug back in - clean everything off again and see if it leaks again.
(assuming its not PS fluid, brake fluid or engine oil)
Check around inner axle seals on case itself, check for cracks on case and only drive a couple miles after cleaning everything off to check. Report back!

don't you claim to be a "mechanic?" do it right for crying out loud. replace the striking rod seal and stop jury rigging your car.
i hope to christ you don't have as much difficulty working on cars at your job as you seem to have with doing simple repairs and research on your maxima.
