So my question is should I stay away from cars that look like this under the hood? Is this a sign other things are going to rust and cause problems in a short amount of time?

your picture doesn't show the conditon of the the radiator support, subframe, and cross-members. those are the places i'd look first to make a more accurate assessment.

that engine compartment looks imaculent. way better than mine.
don't expect rust to cause you problem in short amount of time if the rad support, subfram, and crossmember are good.

That cars engine looks great, go for it. I dont see anything that would stop me from buying that. If ur looking at the rust on those radiator support brackets thats nothing and the rust on the coolant piping well thats normal it happens to all of us.

Looks pretty clean. If the rust isnt bad under the car and rad support it should be fine. And you can replace those rad brackets and coolant pipe if it gets worse. Rust is cancer for a car though

Rust on those little pieces are almost surely going to equal rust down below on hidden parts. He's in Michigan, rust is imminent.

I'm willing to bet money there's extensive rust underneath.

They also said they have extended warranty options starting at 1500 dollars national power train warranty.. Seems a bit expensive.. They won't budge on the price of the car at all at this certain dealership.. the price is quite high for a car of it's age showing surface rust.. Hmmmmmmm
