Gl-4

I am looking for some trans fluid but all the local parts stores dont have synthetic GL-4. My question is, is GL-4 a synthetic gear oil or not. Because I cant find any locally. Im about to go to nissan and buy 5 qt's direct.

Do some reading, but the short answer is GL-4 does not mean synthetic. You can obtain synthetic versions of GL-4.

the closest thing you will find in a parts store that's GL-4 is the universal stuff that i wouldn't use. I run Redline MT-90. It's straight GL-4. You can get it from summit or jegs. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/red-50304/overview/

find a local performance shop to get the fluid you need. otherwise you will have to buy royal purple and its overpriced junk. i use motul 75W 90 its $14 a qt, get it from a VW/Audi shop my neighbor owns, its been better than anything else i put in my transmission.

GL-4 doesnt have a sulfur additive, most older vehicles need GL-4. GL-5 has a sulfur additive that will damage the brass in the synchros of older vehicles
