Quick Charcoal Canister Vent Valve Q

Hi gents, if I were to fit a good charcoal canister vent valve from a 5th gen (2000-2001) into a 5.5gen (2002-2003, 3.5L drivetrain), will it be compatible and turn off the Service Engine Soon light, or do they have to be the exact matches by VIN number?

The only difference in part#s in the Nissan catalogue is the second set of numbers, 14935-5M00B for the 5.5gen and 14935-54U0D for the 2000-2001 models.

Anyone ever experimented and can report, or know?

Thank you!

the canisters are the same Will. There is probably a different number for something that is silly but different between models. My canister is a 5th gen had it for about 4 years now.

Hi Will,
I'm guessing you did some research and may have already seen this, but just in case, have a look at
http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...02-maxima.html since it has some useful info, especially post #14.

Had the same problem on my 2003 last year. Tried the 12V method and saw no valve movement. Ended up replacing just the valve. The funny thing is, I already knew from reading the forums that some ppl recommended cutting the valve off the canister so as not to risk cracking the canister itself. So I started there, cut the valve away with a dremel, only to find that the remaining studs turned freely after all. Perhaps it was the dremel vibration that helped. So I was able to put the new valve on without needing JB Weld and codes haven't been back.

I add air tool oil to the valve before the 12 v test.
