Car died after WOT

2002 SE 6sp 132k.

For the last few weeks the car has taken a few seconds to turn over. One time I had to get it jumped. Alternator is 6 months old. Battery connections are corroded and will be cleaned shortly. Starter is original as far as I know.

While driving home tonight I decided to really open her up. I gotta do it every once in a while, right? So I go WOT through 3rd and a little into 4th and reach about 85mph. AFTER I take my foot off the gas peddle my dash lights up and I am at 85mph in a dead car (lights still on). What caused this? I pulled over...and then the car turned right back on and I drove home just fine (about 5 more minutes).

Notes:

Car is behind on lots of things due to lack of funds. MAF is original, needs VC and plugs have 70k, cats have been dead...I mean I smell rotten eggs at 4k rpm up hills all the time (I know how bad this is but I cannot afford to pay anyone to take them out and what not). And I smelled some serious rotten eggs after this event tonight.

Seriously tough to say bro, assuming you have no cel?
Id take some time cleaning connections, etc, stuff that is just your time not your money, and keep a set of jumpers in the car until its time for A battery/you have enough for one.

If she dies again you should look into this further.

Also how did it die? Like the key shut off, spitter and die, like all electrical power was lost then came back?

Sorry to butt in, but I was wondering.. That rotten egg smell is a little oil burning right?
What are preventive measures if any and what should I be researching in this regard?

Rotten eggs? Are you sure it's coming from the exhaust?

Drive the car around and warm it up to operating temperature and the rotten egg smell is prevalent. Check to make sure the smell isn't coming from the battery and also visually check the battery to see if it looks swollen (sides of battery will puff out)

If you have these symptoms I would definitely have the charging system checked to insure your alternator is not on it's way out (or overcharging).

There should be a decent snow storm today so I won't be touching the car. The car died just like when my alternator went. No sputter. Just engine off and all electrical on. I can afford a new battery now and if cleaning the connections don't work I will get it tested.

I guess I assume th smell is from the cats and not the battery. When cleaning the connections I will look closely but the smell has been around so long I doubt its the battery.

rotten eggs is from the cat's when they're on the way out, or out completely

it can also be created by the gasses from a battery, same type of smell, good call pearl.
