Wipers frozen, stalled

Having winter blizzard in Boston. I cleared snow completely around blades and below blades, still got wipers to work once by jostling them. Seems like clutch is preventing them from engaging. Only 75k miles on the car, can't imagine what is going on.

Not a fuse issue

This is not a fuse issue.

Most likely the clutch transmission:

do the arms move freely by hand? if so it is probably that linkage transmission part. If not then it is probably the motor. Double check fuses and connections/

Will check the fuse this morning. If not, could be brushes on motor, or transmission. Worst part is that I'd have to drive it a ways to my mechanic. Given that the roads are slushy and dirty, I wouldn't be able to see to get there.

Only other alternative is the dealer, and they would probably replace my motor or something. So that is the difficult part.

Checked the fuse, it is fine. Linkage seems intact, moving both blades together sometimes gets the motor to start working intermittently then it stops.

Checked Autozone, they sell a cardone remanufactured motor, has to be special ordered, guess I'll have to have my local service station do the job.

This is a bummer, I can't go anywhere should salt get on the windshield. If I'm lucky I might be able to have the work done on Tuesday.

I heard about the bad snowstorm that hit the East coast. My sympathies. May be a stupid question but have you tried pouring a pot of hot water on the linkage and motor to see if that frees them up?

Yeah, I could have the car towed to the regular mechanic, no way I could navigate not being able to use the wipers after 30 inches of snow in this snowstorm. I can believe the wiper motor would go with 70k miles on the car.

The car has to be designed to run with heavy snow fall. The linkage should be able to cope with ice inside, otherwise no one could drive around. As long as there is no ice externally trapping the wiper arms it has to work.

I had the wipers stop about 1.5 months ago in cold clear weather, I thought it was a quirk.

It has got to be bad brushes or electronics in the wiper motor.

It is still remotely possible that the linkage is binding, causing the motor clutch to slip, I'll have to leave that to the mechanic to find. I wish I had a garage to work on it myself.
